Synopsis / Once upon a telenovela, the Marias taught their viewers to dream bigger, cry harder, and wait for endless love – now, the women return to ask, ‘Who wrote the script?’

Last month I spent a week as part of the program Balkan Watchers 2025 in Bucharest, Romania with these talented journalists and non-fiction storytellers from the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Caucasus region. The projects are bold, creative, timely, and absolutely essential, taking on conflicts, environmental issues, borders, political landscapes, and lifting marginalized voices and communities!
Huge thanks to @_ne_da_m and the @balkandocucenter for the invitation and for organizing such an important initiative that supports journalists stepping out of their comfort zone to do meaningful, impactful work in different creative formats!
