JS Alvarez has a wide spanning yet uncompromising approach to music collecting. He tastefully weaves sets ranging anywhere between leftfield proto-techno, dashes of EBM and industrial, mutant electro and broken beats all the way into the depths of spiralling techno. His sets carry weight and darkness yet don’t feel oppressive, rather dance-able and playful in their twists and turns.
JS Alvarez runs the notable podcast and event series Research and Development which features artists from Chicago and beyond including all over North America! A fixture in his own city at venues such as Podlasie and SmartBar, he has also played notable festivals such as The Great Beyond (MN), and we can’t wait to hear what he has in store for us.
Associate has one of the deepest collections of music we know and manages to seamlessly blend their extraordinary taste of midwest techno, dub, freak acid or wormhole-weirdness. They are a true musical chameleon, yet each corner of their sound and their attention to the mix has a distinct Associate touch.
Associate is the mastermind behind Midnight.FM which contributes excellent programming to underground scene of D.C featuring and playing alongside artists such as Stingray, Carlos Souffront, Shaun J. Wright, Patrick Russell to name a few… You know, real head shit.
Supporting the night we are graced with a long anticipated Adam 2 DJ set, in addition to fellow PPRZ label head DJ Hockey closing it out and Untorn delivering her signature smouldering techno, this night is curated with Substance in mind!

I loved every second of reliving the vibe of the night, which was impeccable! Wata absolutely smashed my brain to pieces. Entropy: tendency of systems to move towards chaos and equilibrium.
Entropy aims to gather music and sound lovers around deeper and meaningful techno, powered by Synesthesia's sound system. The night will unfold from deep & minimalist rhythms into hypnotic and psychedelic grooves.

This first edition marks the birth of our sound system collective. After a year of silence (and labor), the result of our craft finally finds its voice. We’ve built this rig to be the centerpiece of our world: a physical manifestation of the music we love.
The spark for this project was lit in the European underground. Some of us were raised with the Free Tekno movement, where these parties build themselves, by the community, for the community, far from the commercial lens and against capitalism. These spaces exist through collective energy, shared values and shaped the techno culture since day one with the biggest focus being DIY sound systems.
As a tribute to the culture that educated us, this launch is donation-based. Minimum: $5 | Recommended: $15 - $20

On Friday April 3rd Friction lands at the Deli for a night of deep, immersive dancefloor storytelling.
The night brings together a lineup of artists shaping Vancouver’s underground through different shades of driving, atmospheric and textured techno. The evening unfolds gradually- moving from spacious openings into deeper, more tripped out sounds as the room settles into a steady rhythm.
AWood brings their powerful and expressive presence behind the decks, shaped by years of experience across festivals and underground spaces.
Kish leans into hypnotic and deep techno, crafting immersive sets built around deep low-ends and layered textures.
MiiiW explores raw and experimental sounds, blending hypnotic grooves with ambient and tribal textures.
Untorn shares her unwavering passion for techno through a sonic exploration of energy and emotion.
Xiumei rounds out the lineup with intricate rhythms and dark, left-field selections
Yum! opens the night, bringing her Japanese influence and tribal sounds to set the tone as the room eases into motion.

Been a bit quiet over here - literally - while I’m in full recovery mode. Four weeks ago I had a stapedectomy on my right ear to restore my hearing, and I’m so grateful it was successful. After five years I’m learning to hear in stereo again, putting to bed something that once felt so devastating, and the experience is honestly surreal.
Properly mixing and getting back to music isn’t too far on the horizon, but this pause has made me appreciate the small sounds we usually take for granted: the wind as it passes you by, the crunch of leaves beneath your feet, the hum of a distant engine - each with its own tone and texture.
Eternally appreciative and determined to put these two high end amps on the side of my noggin to good use ✨
