Being part of the Dune family for the second time fills me with an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude. It's been quite a while since I last shared a glimpse of my work. I'm Vi-Dan Tran, an action designer with the Jackie Chan Stunt Team based in Germany. This reel showcases my role as an action ronin operator. My approach is straightforward: an action camera operator should move in sync with the talents, grasping the artistry of choreography. Understanding body mechanics is key to capturing motion effectively, all while managing the cinematic framing and handling the weight of camera gear. Over 10 years ago we released Darth Maul: Apprentice! Now at 34 million views :O Being a passionate Star Wars Fan since my early childhood, this was an absolute passion project. Even as a kid I wanted to shoot a Star Wars fan-film. A dream that followed me through my studies. Together with @vi_dan and @maul_cosplay   I felt we had something very unique that we could bring to the world. Vi-Dan with his insane talent and skill in Action Design. Ben with his stunt background and already a mindblowing Darth Maul Cosplayer. And me as an aspiring writer and director with a focus on visual storytelling and VFX, who had a vision how we could make the ultimate fan-film and finally give a character, who never got enough live-action screentime, his moment to shine! it was a almost 2 year journey from script to Youtube screen. Putting in more than 25.000 Euro of my own and facing many, many struggles, to make this movie happen. And a lot of learning I could take out of it. Especially this: Filmmaking is 90% problem solving. Over 60 people worked on this film, from the amazing actors to the talented crews on set, to an army in the postproduction! Back in Budapest 2024 shooting Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. This one was wild. Operating the @djiglobal Ronin RS4 Pro with a @sonycine Venice Rialto (20m tether) while the entire room was going crazy — rotating floor, uneven angles, stunt fights everywhere. Trying to keep the frame steady while the world literally refuses to stay level. Moments like this are why I love what I do. Camera operating right in the middle of the action.
