We had built the bones of this act a year prior and never got a chance to perform it. Working with Jayeden in the air is such a treat - their movement quality has a joy and softness that I loved to play off, and their aerial experience meant I got to learn so much while working together. I can’t wait until my strength returns and I can hold beautiful people in the air again. Do you want to see another Mac Tavish x Rainbow circus collab?

I am by no means a historian or an expert on this topic outside of some personal interest and research, so I also invite anyone who is more knowledgeable to add their own insights and interpretations on the symbolism of the Shanghai Girl— but a lot of my work as a writer involved unpacking Chinese history as someone who feels very shaped by Chinese culture of a certain time and has gaps in context as a result of not having my own personal experiences of growing up or living there. But I do feel strongly about expanding my knowledge and digging deeper to unpack my understanding of Chinese culture and history to understand what it means to be living in a Chinese body in 2026. Also me and Trang went off bc she literally hauled furniture from her parents house and did the set up in an hour, and I had to learn how to do finger waves and cook a fish for this.
