I’ve returned with another Carousell about artistry— and digging into what it means to me to be multidisciplinary. I know a lot of my peers here are as well. I’m wondering if any of you have ever also felt pigeonholed into one practice and how you deal with that. I’m curious how all of you identify as artists.
So a couple things: (1) this is a video to explain why I feel so strongly about making theatre as my main artistic practice and why I feel it’s more important than ever before (2) each of the things I’ve identified could be its own point that would be worth diving into (3) I’m wondering if any other theatre artists in my ecosystem are wrestling with the same questions, and what your thoughts are AND (4) if you’re not thinking about what it means to do theatre in 2026/don’t believe that how technology has evolved has any impact on the work you do— why? (5) I believe these implications are important to unpack as a sector if we really believe theatre is as important as it is to be devoting our lives to it.
