Much joy in our (farm)house ✨ Champion crate digger @verygoodplus joins us for a very special selection of 7-inch Acid. Sie is normally known for his globetrotting rare jazz and soul digs, but today he takes us somewhere altogether different. A place called acid! Deepchord, Underground Resistance, Rhythim Is Rhythim, Truncate, DJ Haus, and more — all on 7 inches of pure wax. It goes up, it goes down, it goes all around — “keep your hands in the ride or you might die” 🎠 He kindly sent us pics too... 45 FRIDAY - I’ve been pulling records from the flight cases all week ahead of a 4-hour set tomorrow and, despite best efforts, I was unable to keep the colour theme going on #45friday as I couldn’t to find four ‘purple’ records that were roughly the same shade. By Thursday evening I had “two light purple, two dark purple” and that just wasn’t going to cut it with you lot. Was surprised how few purple label records I have… So, this week we present “picture sleeves”, with a particular focus on UK-only releases from the 1980’s. Do please read on… WARNER - Co-written by Roy Carter from Heatwave, this 1983 was Warner (aka Nigerian musician Oladisun Majekodunmi) only release. OSU - Another one-off release from 1983, this one is all about the b-side track “Light Up My Fire”. Killer..! I couldn’t find much information about The Osu Band, other than they comprised musicians from various African nations including Ghana and Liberia. FIFTH OF HEAVEN - A trio from Salford featuring Denise Johnson on vocals who is best remembered for her vocals on Primal Scream’s “Don’t Fight It, Feel It”. The trio released three records between 1988 and 1990. A great example of British Street Soul. LACY JC - Another one-off release from 1990, you can hear the house music influences on this track. Lacy JC was Julie Couldon who released just two records. ⬅️👆🏼➡️ for label photos and soundclips… Hope you enjoy the music, wishing you all a great weekend..! ✌🏼❤️ #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #boogie45 #streetsoul

45 FRIDAY - Keeping the colour theme going on #45friday this week we present “light blue”. Four classics for you to enjoy. The Barbara Mason is one of my wife’s favourite Arctic 45’s and the only one I have with black printed text, different to the usual dark blue colour favoured by the label. This 45 is becoming rare to find now, I haven’t seen one for sale for ages. I found The Oceanliners whilst digging in Montreal, I am always surprised how many records from Florida (and Jamaica for that matter) show up in Canada. The Black Truth is a rare New Jersey record, I thank my brother @loverecordsphl who gifted me this bad boy. Last is a banger from Virginia, I have two 45’s on this label but this funk dancer is the pick of all the sides. ⬅️👆🏼➡️ for label photos and soundclips… Hope you enjoy the music, wishing you all a great weekend..! ✌🏼❤️ #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #funk45 #soul45

45 FRIDAY - Keeping the colour theme going on #45friday this week we present “shades of GOLD”. Finding four records with exact matching gold colour palettes was a challenge too far, especially when you can have both matt and glossy finishes. High Voltage Unlimited are a band from San Diego, I think this was their only release (thanks @rawsoulrebel for this copy back in the day). Purists will say I’ve selected the wrong side of the Fabulous Caprices 45, I will admit I did buy it for the funk side. “Jockey Ride” is timeless and I hope you make it all the way to the last record as I think the Pure Funk track is superb. A west coast band, they had some connection to Albuquerque and that is where most copies of this record originate from. One story I heard was that the band toured New Mexico and left a bunch of the records there to sell. Maybe my old buddies at @slolowvinylrecords can enlighten us… ⬅️👆🏼➡️ for label photos and soundclips… Hope you enjoy the music, wishing you all a great weekend..! ✌🏼❤️ #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #funk45 #soul45

#TBT Seoul, South Korea 2018. I visited South Korea every 18-24 months between 2007 and 2020, usually staying in the city of Suwon but always managing to get at least a day in the capital before or after the work. I’ve found some photos from a 2018 trip that are decent quality so sharing them here today. Back in those days - for me - there were two areas of the city to focus on to find records. The Hoehyeon underground market is stacked high with thousands of records and can be quite daunting when you first travel down the steps into this vast open area with multiple shops. Never has the question “where do I start?” felt more relevant. I also would travel to the Dongmyo Flea Market area where the experience is more intimate and grubby. Found some gems there over the years. #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #alwaysdigging

WATCH THIS SOUND:- Buffalo Springfield’s 1967 “For What It’s Worth” still resonates with many people because its anti-war, anti-police brutality and pro-peaceful protest stance feels as relevant today as it did 59 years ago. There have been many covers of the song, a personal favourite being Sergio Mendes’ version from 1970. This week I found a reggae version of the song, recorded by The Uniques, with title and lyrics slightly altered; maybe in an attempt to avoid paying royalties..! This release on Trojan Records is from 1968, just one year after the original song. Any good..? Let me know your opinions… #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #reggae45 #theuniques #forwhatitsworth

45 FRIDAY - Keeping the colour theme going on #45friday, this week we present “deep pink”. Four great seven-inch singles from the collection. The Deloris Ealy is an absolute neck-cracker, I love playing that record. Feel blessed to have a Pearl Dowell, I picked it up in 2008 when I bought a collection that was all killer no filler. Those that know will comment “both sides amazing!” and they are 100% spot-on. ⬅️👆🏼➡️ for label photos and soundclips… Hope you enjoy the music, wishing you all a great weekend..! ✌🏼❤️ #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #funk45 #soul45

#TBT Jerry’s - Pittsburgh, February 2016. I had been working in upstate Massachusetts and flew down to Pittsburgh late on the Friday night to have a weekend in the city ahead of work in West Virginia the following week. I’d heard lots about Jerry’s and knew it would be a full-day affair, akin to Val’s in Philly. My timing was lucky because Jerry was getting out of the 45 game and his entire stock of 7-inch singles was up for sale as a job lot. It was overwhelming to view them all, my photos do not do the total amount of stock justice. In the room at the back I found a complete run of Murco singles so plucked out a Reuben Bell and a couple of others I wanted. I also remember finding the last few Marvelettes 45’s on US Motown I wanted, all were cheap. I met and got to speak to Jerry upon my arrival, by the time I was ready to cash out he had left the store and I think it was his son (?) working the register. He was talking to a local guy as I approached the till and he mentioned that to this dude that Jerry was looking to sell his Soundburger portable as he didn’t use it anymore. I interjected and a quick deal for $50 was agreed. I left with a fistful of records and a portable to enjoy them on back in my hotel room. That’s close to a perfect day in my books… #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #alwaysdigging EDIT - I was told that the 7-inch stock sold for $750,000 a few months later. I may need correcting on that - I heard it second-hand…

Sharing some British 7-inch singles from the early 1980’s. An exciting time where many musical styles - disco, punk, new wave, boogie, jazz/funk and soul - blended to form new sounds from bands some of who later went on to be famous and many of which who were forever adorned with the “one hit wonder” tag. There was no other way to get your music heard other than to pass around demo tapes, press up small quantities of vinyl, and to gig hard. New bands and new labels were popping up all over the country and the “have a go” DIY spirit of music recording and distribution first fostered by the punk movement would continue to power bands in the early 1980’s to aim for the top. The four records I’m sharing sit in the centre of the jazz/funk, boogie and new wave Venn Diagram. Please take a listen and share thoughts and comments. ⬅️👆🏼➡️ for label photos and soundclips… ELEVENTH HOUSE - a complete one- off for the band and label in 1983. CLARITY - another one-off project from 1985 released on the short lived BPOP label that released a half dozen records that year and then disappeared for good. YEOW - had three releases between 1982 and 1983 on small labels and all three are worth tracking down. INTRIGUE - this band released four records on small independent labels between 1982 and 1984 and again, all are worth at least a listen. Their debut “I Like It” was recently reissued by @backatcharecords . I also recommend 1984’s “No Turning Back”. #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #jazzfunk #boogie #britfunk

45 FRIDAY - Keeping the colour theme going on #45friday this week we present “green”. There were many different shades of green to consider so I tried to find four that were the closest match. What we’ve ended up with was two absolutely classics and two records that may not be so familiar… ⬅️👆🏼➡️ for label photos and soundclips… I’m still surprised how good shape my Marilyn Barbarin 45 is, I’ve been DJ’ing with that record for almost 20 years now. Hope you enjoy the music, wishing you all a great weekend..! ✌🏼❤️ #vinylvulture #verygoodplus #funk45 #soul45

#TBT - Philadelphia, 2007/8. Probably the first time I had a mobile phone with a camera, so some of these photos have *not stood the test of time. However, they do capture some of the old record stores of Philly that are no longer with us. So, with that in mind… 1. Unknown location. 2. I think this was Webb’s Department Store..? 3. Funk O Mart, this was the only time I visited because it had closed down the next time I was in town. 4. The basement at Repo Records. 5. Double Decker Records in Allentown. 6 & 7. Buying records off the hood of Stinky Steve’s car, under a bridge on the highway near the Sunoco refinery. 8. Helping stock the (about to open) Beautiful World store in West Philly. Don’t know how long it was open for. Remember humping boxes of records from the van into the store all day, ending up covered in dead insects, dust and dirt. Remember sitting outside afterwards drinking a 40oz of malt liquor. 9. Not sure, could this have been the old Hiding Place? @hidingplaceplace 10. Armands, centre city.
