Elegy Ahn did not ask for destiny to find her. She is happy with her life as a soldier, defending her small country from the Talusar, a powerful nation who worships a deadly Fever—a fever that blesses half of its victims with mysterious gifts. But when she's summoned to hear a prophecy alongside the ruthless Talusar general Rava Vidar, they learn that one of them will lead their people to victory over the other...but they don't know which. And at the center of both their fates: a man Elegy is told she will fall in love with. As destiny forces these rivals to collide, with the fate of their nations hanging in the balance, only one will be left standing. Elegy intends to make sure it's her.

So remember when i was pondering bookshelf organization as alignments? Spines in is definitely chaotic evil (because how do you FIND them?), but I gave it a try. Turns out I'm still neutral good (spines out, no organization system whatsoever).
Let's hear your alignments, people!
The first two tour stops for Seek the Traitor’s Son were a joy, thank you to the bookstores @bnunionsqnyc and @mjudsonbooks for hosting, the staff for taking pictures and keeping us in order, my brilliant conversation partners and moderators @mariskreizman@sarahmaclean@zoraidasolo and @bethrevis for bringing their humor and their wisdom in equal measure, and of course, the readers!!! For coming and sharing with me in the signing line. NYC watched me burst into (happy) tears and Greenville, we’ll always have Conservatories.
With my deep apologies for 1. The misspelling of Alysa Liu’s name in the captions and 2. Mentioning her at every stop to explain the feeling of writing this book. It’s just that you’re the best, @alysaxliu , I don’t make the rules.
❤️
Please welcome @veronicaroth to the pod! She was kind enough to step in while @somanc is on tour, and we talk about everything - but mostly recurring trends in publishing, what it feels like to return to old work, and whether or not we are stuck in a time loop. You can list to the ep of @plottwist_pod right now.
Across the pond alert: Seek the Traitor’s Son is out in the UK today! Thank you to the lovely folks at @torbooksuk for helping to bring this book into the world. It’s a beauty. ❤️
Since 2019, Veronica Roth (@veronicaroth ) has been working on a passion project in the background, a romantic dystopian novel she couldn't forget about. 📚️
Her new book, "Seek the Traitor's Son" (out now) follows Elegy Ahn, a soldier who receives a prophecy that either she or her enemy will lead their people to victory.
In an interview with USA TODAY, Roth explained that "Seek" was inspired by the pandemic. In the book a deadly sickness kills everyone who catches it. Half of those people come back to life with mysterious gifts.
In real life, Roth watched the world adapt to the pandemic and she felt inspired to write about how panic threads itself into the fabric of society.
At the link in our bio, read the full interview with Roth and find out how the new dystopian book helped her reopen #Divergent.

Six and a half years and ten drafts after I first met these characters, Seek the Traitor's Son is finally in the world!
Thank you to everyone at @torbooks@newleafliterary@thefutureofagency@leoprny for their enthusiasm and support from the very start-- and thank you to all the early readers of this book for their amazing reviews, playlists, fan casts, wild reaction GIFs, questions, and general enthusiasm for this story. If you haven't read it yet, I hope you love Elegy and Theren (and their slow walk toward each other after their worlds fall apart) as much as I do.
(...But no one loves Hela as much as I do. No one!!!)
I’ve done two media tours (I think?) in my author life. One was for Divergent and one was today for Seek the Traitor’s Son. They involve getting up early, getting camera ready, and doing a lot of interviews— some radio and some TV and now some podcasts— back to back. In this case, there were 21, each 5-15 minutes. Basically, you get wired up with a microphone and earpiece and linked up to morning shows and local TV; you hear about San Antonio’s traffic and Boston’s pollen report; you do your best to hear despite weird audio; and generally, even though it’s tiring, it’s a huge privilege to be able to do all this from one room on one day to support your book.
I thought you might appreciate seeing behind the scenes, since this isn’t something I’d heard about before doing one myself!
Seek the Traitor’s Son comes out tomorrow! I’m so excited for you to read it. But first: sleep.
In honor of Seek the Traitor's Son being out in the world this week, I'm giving away a signed copy of Seek the Traitor's Son, a bookmark, a gorgeous keychain, a world map, AND a letter from me!
Here's how to enter for a chance to win:
