From Cardiff raves to Rio Carnival, London-based photographer Yushy has spent the past decade documenting dance music culture in all its forms 📸 Once described as the “Louis Theroux of underground raves”, he specialises in capturing the small moments that encapsulate both the restless energy and quiet intimacy there is to be found on dancefloors everywhere. As he readies the reissue his 2020 book on the Welsh drum & bass scene, Rave to the Grave, on Velocity Press, he tells Daniel Dylan Wray about the ten photos he’s most proud of. Future Language of the Ikonoklast ✦ German launch at Unlock Book Fair 2026, with author Remi Rough (@remirough ). In 1989, six London graffiti artists were invited to join a new collective spearheaded by Juice 126. Guided by his manifesto, the group sought to break free from the traditional constraints of graffiti. This was well before the current wave of street art, and the collective became one of the earliest groups of writers to push deliberately beyond the rules of graffiti culture. Collective member Remi Rough will be at the fair presenting the new book about this era. In his own words: “a 272 page tome of artworks and photographs from a pre-digital era sharing the history of the Ikonoklast Movement.” Most of this material is published for the first time. Published by @velocitypress , who will be at the fair with their catalogue exploring rave and other subcultures. Remi Rough is a featured artist at this year’s Urban Art Biennale @voelklinger_huette . ➔ Future Language of the Ikonoklast Talk & Book Launch ✦ With author Remi Rough (UK) Published by Velocity Press (UK) 30 min • Saturday May 10 Don’t miss the feast of graffiti, art and subcultures! 📚🔥❤️🎉 Unlock Book Fair 2026 • 8–10 May • Völklinger Hütte @voelklinger_huette • Presented by Urban Art Biennale and GRACE Project

Who said Sunday is a day of rest? We’re feeling incredibly grateful (and a little bit exhausted in the best way possible), looking back at everything that happened yesterday. The day kicked off at The Greyhound in Peckham for our book fair. Huge thanks to Soi Books, Disco Pogo, Cultural Traffic and Suddi Raval for the company, Justin Robertson for playing such a great set and not forgetting The Greyhound team for being such welcoming hosts. To everyone who swung by to browse and chat: thank you for making the afternoon so vibrant. From South London, it was straight down to Brighton for Sound Affects at the East Street Tap. It was a total joy to see a full house and feel that level of energy in the room. The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the talks from photographers Georgina Cook and Yushy. Hearing them dive into the stories behind their respective books, Drumz of the South and Section 63, was a real treat for anyone who loves underground culture. It was also great to catch up with fellow Velocity Press authors Dan Lish and Holly Dicker in the crowd. Big love to Jak Hutchcraft for organising such a seamless event, and to everyone in Brighton who came out to support. #velocitypress

A new book, ‘Ukrainian Field Notes: Sound, Music and Voices from Ukraine After the Full-Scale Invasion’, explores how war has reshaped electronic music in Ukraine. The book is rooted in more than 300 interviews recorded for the Resonance FM podcast ‘A Closer Listen’, which platforms experimental artists across the country. Hosted by Gianmarco Del Re, the podcast forms the basis of the book, which examines how air raid sirens, bombs and gunfire have transformed music production and everyday listening habits. Del Re’s previous work includes a documentary on alternative music in Bratislava and a monograph on artist and film-maker Derek Jarman. We spoke to Del Re about how conflict has transformed listening, production and the meaning of the dancefloor in Ukraine. You can purchase a copy of the book today via @velocitypress .
