Since 2024 I’ve been studying an MA in Graphic Communication Design at Central St Martins, London. Now in the home straight of the course, here’s where I am.
Where’s That Really From? Is a publication for kids aged 9-12, and their parents, that engages with colonial legacy through shared learning.
A test piece is now out with local families to see whether it works. It asks the reader to find, record and respond to the hidden histories in everyday things that can be found in the home.
You can find out more via the link below, which form part of CSM’s annual digital work-in-progress exhibition: MAGCD Projections.

Looking ahead, I’ll be developing this into a finished, printed publication and testing through local schools. More soon. @csmgraphics
SO pleased to be working for new client @manchester_university_press on the cover for Out of the Box by Emily Garside @emigarside , a tour through the colourful, complicated world of queer television.
Type: Gilbert from Adobe Fonts, named after Rainbow Flag creator Gilbert Bake.
With thanks to Siân Chapman
Here's our 2026 MA Graphic Communication Design In Progress publication, which gives a snapshot of where I am with my MA enquiry. My journey is taking me into colonial legacies and the UK curriculum. More posts of what I'm working on coming soon...
Thanks to all on MAGCD at Central St Martins, London.
Cover reveal ✨
Thrilled to share the final cover for the paperback edition of Sanctuary, out this October (to pre-order see link in bio 👆🏼).
Huge thanks to my publishers @cintopress for all their support, to the brilliant Mark Ecob (@mecobdesign ) for the striking cover design, and to my agent @cull_and_co_literary_agency for championing the book from the beginning.
I’m also immensely grateful for the support of readers, reviewers and interviewers - from The Tablet to the @newinternationalist ; from @lselaw and The Law Society Gazette to local and London papers/broadcasters; from @thetimes and the @the.tls to @bbcguernsey and @lovereadinguk , where Liz Robinson’s generous words meant the world. I can’t wait for Sanctuary to reach new audiences in its paperback form this autumn.

‘Mark delivered a set of chapter illustrations for a book on neurodiversity that were quirky and light-hearted, capturing the feel and themes of the book without resorting to clichés. His ability to distill complex ideas into approachable visuals, coupled with his excellent communication and timely delivery, made him an absolute pleasure to work with.’

I did a series of covers for the brilliant Robin Ince and Atlantic Books 2021-2023, which you can see here on the last slide. Earlier this year, Pan Macmillan, his new publisher, asked me to produce an illustration to lead each chapter. ‘Normally Weird and Weirdly Normal’ is an insight into the author's own ADHD diagnosis in midlife and his quest to find out exactly what "normal" is. The illustrations were suitably diverse and unexpected, the brief a total pleasure. Sincere thanks to Lindsay, resident text design genius at Pan Mac.

'Books based around reproductions of historical documents are a challenge - as the documents themselves are often visually a bit dull. You need to create a design environment to make them look fresh and exciting but also feel like you are being transported in time. This re-animation of history is something that Mark is really good at doing.'

In 2024 I was asked to design a crowdfunding cover for Apollo 11: The Command Module Transcripts, which details conversations between Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins on the mission to the moon when no-one else was listening.
The conversations were captured by a small onboard reel-to-reel tape recorder and later transcribed by NASA. Kept confidential until the late 1970s, they offer an unprecedented, intimate glimpse into Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins’s groundbreaking lunar mission.
The cover is a huge fold-out poster showing the landing zone, on which there is a customized sticker version of the Apollo 11 mission badge. It reveals a striking yellow and blue over based on the transcripts cover sheet.
As part of the campaign, I designed spreads and other assorted ephemera based on material declassified by NASA.
With thanks to author Jonathan Scott and Editor Mathew Clayton.

Congrats to @sachacoward whose book Queer as Folklore has been longlisted for the Polari First Book Prize 2025, the UK’s LGBTQ+ book awards, founded 2011. So proud of this cover design, which all started with one of the author’s T shirts, brought alive by the brilliant Beto Val.
