The weather is finally nice enough to go for a long walk. Walk across the length of Manhattan if youâve never done that before. Walk from Bed Stuy to Ridgewood or from Bushwick to LES. Wear comfortable shoes, stop for a bite and end it with a cold beer. If you walk enough, New York will start to feel both unimaginably vast and intimately approachable at the same time. Werner Herzog said, âthe world reveals itself to those who walk on footâ and every time I go on a long walk this rings particularly true.
On this weekâs episode of MvW, I talk to my friend Amelia Holcomb (@ameliagrace21 ) about the joy of walking around New York City.

A few years ago, on my 30th birthday, I went to see LCD Soundsystem at one of their NY residency shows. Iâve seen them live before but that night, their music hit differently. I danced and I cried. There is something both deeply sad and beautiful about getting older in New York because you see so much come and goâfriends, jobs, apartments, relationships, your favorite barâŚetc. Itâs a city in constant motion and flux with no respect for the permanent. You grieve a city that once was but at the same time, it will seduce you with what will come.
On this weekâs episode, I talk to my friend @teasea____ who is leaving NYC behind, and who was there with me celebrating my 30th birthday at the LCD show. We get real deep about loving a city that may not always love you back. This one is special. I hope you give it a listen â¤ď¸

@nikadsabasteanski and I are obsessed with supermarkets. When we travel, thatâs the first place we want to go. We ask random people where they go grocery shopping. We walk down grocery aisles for fun. We think about food 80% of the day. Itâs not normal, but we explain why in the latest episode of @myrtlevswyckoff_

Iâm doing #dryjanuary this year and thank god for @anderserickson âs Basil Orgeat Lemonade
1 1/2 oz orgeat
1 1/2 oz lemon juice
3 oz seltzer
4 basil leaves
Shake lemon, orgeat, and basil leaves and strain it over crushed ice. Garnish it with more basil in the glass plus a lemon wheel. Itâs soo good I bet it also tastes good with some gin.
The Painkiller is essentially a variation on the popular piĂąa colada. Created in the British Virgin Islands during the 70s at the Soggy Dollar Bar, this drink has often found itself in the middle of contentious litigation mostly due to the drink being trademarked by Pusserâs Rum in the 1980s. Legally, you canât call it a Painkiller if itâs not made with Pusserâs Rum, which is more than enough reason to try and push some boundaries and experiment and use different rums⌠just make sure you have a good lawyer on retainer. Fortunately for me I live with one. Cheers.
Painkiller
2 ounces Pusserâs rum (you can use any strong rum, I used smith & cross)
4 ounces pineapple juice
1 ounce orange juice, freshly squeezed
1 ounce cream of coconut (Coco Lopez)
Garnish: nutmeg, freshly grated and pineapple frond
