There is a hunger for the human – an escape but not a denial of our world within small screens.
How can we return to the grounding of the primal through walking, observing, mark making, moving, and conversing?
This event is a montage of excursions with the tactile and with the tangible. Interdisciplinary structures will facilitate a melding of approaches that support our related processes… We share a collective focus, bringing the physical and improvisational through interludes of collective play.
DANCERS, MUSICIANS, HUMANS, & PEDESTRIANS NEEDED.…

TONIGHT @ 7pm ET (link in bio)
The MFA in Graphic Design Program at VCFA is excited to host a special virtual book talk with designer, educator, and advocate Omari Souza as he shares insights from his forthcoming book, Design Against Racism. Drawing from his extensive work in design and social justice, Souza explores how creative practices can both perpetuate and dismantle systemic inequities. This conversation will highlight the role of designers in addressing bias, amplifying marginalized voices, and envisioning more inclusive futures.
Souza, known for his founding of the State of Black Design (SOBD) and impactful teaching, brings a powerful perspective on how design intersects with race, culture, and community. Look forward to an evening that takes a first look at the themes shaping Design Against Racism. A Q&A with Souza and VCFA Alumnx Shannon Doronio Chavez will expand the dialogue about equity-driven approaches to design practice.
Join us for this timely and inspiring event that challenges us to rethink the responsibility—and possibility—of design in creating a more just world.

Design as a Passion Project: Meet GDUSA “Student to Watch” Jewell Melisa Morton.
Jewell Melisa Morton (GD ’25) may have just graduated from VCFA’s MFA in Graphic Design program in January 2025, but she’s already established in the field of Esports design.
In the spring of 2025, Morton was named a GDUSA “Student to Watch” along with two other VCFA Graphic Design community members. “I’ve got impostor syndrome right now,” Morton admitted. “I don’t know what it means for me. I just want to work with people that are really cool and make cool work.”

VCFA Graphic Design Thesis Exhibition 2025
Other People’s Prisms invites us to witness the refractions of perspective through three creators standing in the same space, each casting light in a different direction. Though the projects diverge in form and focus, they share a common question: How does a personal lens shape what we see, and how do we, in turn, shape the world? This exhibition is an act of empathy, a call to notice the multiplicity within others and the shifting nature of our own lens. In looking through other people’s prisms, we come to see ourselves more clearly.
Shannon Doronio Chavez (GD ’25), Rian Kasner (GD ’25), and Lana Lambert (GD ’25).
