‘Alfred was here’, oil on plywood, fly screens, tape, 1450cm x 380cm.
Warren Lee wanted to paint cyclone Alfred (02.03.25-09.03.25) but Alfred wouldn’t sit still. Kept moving, erratically, all over the place. Also, you need a satellite to see him fully. What’s more, Alfred could not have cared less. Reckless Alfred. Have you noticed how people act so differently when a cyclone approaches? Maybe it’s the fearful resignation that we humans are not in charge after all. ‘Alfred was here’ burrows into the digital remnants of the ABC’s daily weather predictions and borrows the sublime setting of Caspar David Friedrich’s ‘The sea of ice’.
