VCA alum Laura Banfield (@laurabanfield ) has been busy guiding ten UniMelb students across dance, fine arts, curatorship + more through a series of performance-led workshops. Together, they've been exploring sound, gesture and physical activations as a way of creating evolving 'body sculptures.' Now the process steps into the public realm. From 19–21 May, they'll bring this collaborative development to MPavilion Parkville for audiences to witness the work unfolding in real time, culminating in a live public performance. 📆 Wednesday 20 May 🕠 5.30pm to 6.30pm 🔗 Register at the link in our bio 〰️ Photos by Astrid Mulder.

🦗☀️ All around the world, one of the first signs of summer is the evening song of the cricket – but the song is more than a familiar sound; it is also a signal of a healthy ecosystem. As part of the Venice Biennale arts festival, 'The Song of the Cricket' reintroduced the Adriatic Marbled Bush-Cricket to Venice lagoons via floating habitats, creating both art an installation and ecological experiment, offering a new model for conservation, where art, design and science work together to restore ecological relationships. This project, led by ABP, involves an interdisciplinary team from FEIT, Science and FFAM, and is one of five worldwide to be shortlisted for the Architizer A+Awards Popular Choice Vote in this category. Tap the link in bio to learn more. This project was developed by a team of Australian and Italian partners, led by Professor Alexander Felson and the UEDLAB, in partnership with entomologist Dr Filippo M. Buzzetti from the Fondazione Museo Civico di Rovereto in Italy and the Living Insect Museum Esapolis of the Province of Padova, led by Enzo Moretto, managed by Kheprica APS and Butterfly Arc Srl. 📷 Courtesy @AlexanderFelson & @UED_LAB @FEITUniMelb @SciMelb @UniMelb @VCA_MCM

20 film and animation students pitched their projects to a packed house and absolutely delivered 🎬 The room was buzzing with ideas and creative conversations as our @VCA_FTV students proved to themselves that they’re capable of stepping up and doing things that once felt challenging. We can wait to see what you all produce and premiere later this year 👏

Felt like a bit of a Mongrel 😜 Pictures are in intended order. A highlight each year, Mongrel brings together our @VCAMusicTheatre and Interactive Composition students to develop their own original works that are raw, inventive and unapologetically iconic. 📸 @LivMorison

VCA alumni Darcey Bella Arnold takes over Buxton Contemporary’s latest exhibition with flashes of orange. 🍊🧡 But it isn’t about the fruit or even the colour. Arnold’s long-running fascination with orange stems from the word itself. See her commission as part of our new exhibition, Poetry goes no further than language. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm.

At a time when there’s a lot of polarisation, events like Carlton Harmony Day create space for people to come together to share their cultures, art and connect. Featuring a performance by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music's Chinese Ensemble, our students showcased traditional instruments like the dizi, sheng, erhu and guzheng and embodied the beauty of cultural expression through music. 📸 David Darlington

A story of loss, longing and quiet devotion 💔 Originally set in 17th-century Italy, the verismo tragedy of Suor Angelica centres around life in a convent. Tender and devastating in equal measure, this century-old opera found new breath on stage with our Master of Music (Opera Performance), Honours and Undergraduate Voice students at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
