FAR (2021)
A mini-series @eduardbuhac & I created during the pandemic.
Shot across New York, London, Bucharest, and Suceava with a minimal crew, after rehearsing it like a theatre piece.
It follows five childhood friends, scattered across the world, reconnecting when their hometown goes into lockdown.
A story about distance, identity, and what “home” means once you’ve left it.
Semi-finalist — New York City Film & Television Festival
Honorable Mention — Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival
Still so proud of this one. Learned so much.

🎭 After its March 7 premiere, ExtraO1dinary Aliens! — a compelling new play by Vietnamese-American playwright Carolina Đỗ and directed by Romanian-American artist Vas Eli — continues this week at JACK in Brooklyn. We’re sharing a few images from the production and warmly inviting our community to discover this powerful and timely show.
🌍 Presented by Betterfly Productions, Leviathan Lab, and JACK, in association with The Hearth Supported Productions and The Sống Collective, the play brings together an immigrant and first-generation cast and creative team, reflecting the lived experiences behind the story on stage.
💔 At the center of the play is Corneliu, a Romanian immigrant in love with Kay, a U.S. citizen. Around them, a circle of friends navigates the fragile realities of visas, expiring documents, artistic dreams, and uncertain futures. As relationships deepen and pressures mount, the play asks urgent questions:
What makes someone leave everything they know for a new country? What makes someone stay despite a hostile system? And can the promise of the American Dream truly become reality?
🎬 Creative team:
Playwright Carolina Đỗ | Director Vas Eli | Co-producer Maria Müller | Line producer Federica Borlenghi | Assistant director & stage manager Isabel Criado | Projection designer Michi Zaya | Lighting designer Jiahao “Neil” Qiu
🎭 Cast: Vas Eli, Julie Tran, Maria Müller, Belle Le, Marlon Xavier, Matthew Zimmerman
🇷🇴 We are especially proud to see Romanian artists represented on the New York stage and invite the Romanian Cultural Institute community to support this vibrant, multicultural production highlighting immigrant voices in contemporary theatre.
📅 Remaining performances:
March 11, 12, 13, 14 | 7 PM

Brooklyn Night Out!!
5:30pm: Sisters, 900 Fulton St.
A little known fact about Sisters is that it used to be a hardware store (an old coworker told me this and I have never bothered to verify this). A well-known fact about Sisters is that it's everything you want a Brooklyn restaurant to be - beautiful, delicious food, a good hang. Start your night here.
7:00pm: Extrao1dinary Aliens!, JACK, 20 Putnam Ave.
Then head to JACK to catch Carolina ÐǑ's new play, EXTRAO1DINARY ALIENS! Corneliu is an immigrant from Romania who is in love with Kay, a U.S. Citizen. Linh is Kay's best friend who might have let her student visa lapse?! David has dreams of opening up his restaurant with his cousin Enoc. ExtraO1dinary Aliens! is a love story centered on immigrants and the ones who love them. How can love defy the dehumanizing machinations of the US Immigration system? What makes someone leave everything they've ever known to journey to a foreign land? What makes someone stay despite the hostile environment? What is the promise of the American dream and can it ever be a reality? This is one of the shows we're excited about this month!!
8:30pm: Bar Francis, 810 Fulton St.
After the show, head to Bar Francis for a night cap!
(EXTRAO1DINARY ALIENS! opens on 3/7 and runs through 3/14 - get your tickets now!!)
@filipino.grigio in conversation with @carolinakaydo and @vaseli_vaseli for their upcoming show “ExtraO1dinary Aliens!” at @jackartsny .
“. I spent an hour I didn’t have this morning figuring out babysitting. I’m trying to normalize bringing babies into the [rehearsal] space because, well, that’s what we’re doing it for. Also, I can’t afford childcare. It’s hard to figure out the boundaries of me as an artist versus me as a mom versus me as a wife, versus me as holding all of my other hats of part-time jobs.”
This play has a happy ending because we’re building it together. 🫡🥰 we’re running March 7-9, 11-14th
