We were so excited to team up with ORA at the end of last year, and it just keeps getting better. . .
Beyond creating delicious meals that feed body and soul, ORA is out to transform the very food landscape of South LA, and to right the wrongs of a an urban food desert. They believe that access to healthy food is a fundamental human right, and they are putting that belief into action every day, with so much love on every plate.
Founded by Tina Amin and Tony Jolly, an amazing husband and wife team, ORA is deeply dedicated to their Leimert Park Village, and offers a welcoming gathering space to the community - when you visit, plan to stop and stay awhile, we promise you won’t be in a hurry to leave.
In addition to all-day brunch and smoothies, ORA is also the perfect place to get your morning (or afternoon) coffee. All their beans are hand picked and ethically sourced, and roasted by their sister company Crenshaw Coffee, and you can purchase beans to brew at home!
We continue to be so grateful to our new friends in baking, who show so much hospitality and passion for what they do - look for our pastries in their case and our country sourdough deliciously filled with their house smoked brisket, chicken or enoki mushrooms.

Every delicious cup supports regenerative farming practices and fair pricing for growers. Cafecita roasts all of their own coffees and serves them in 100% compostable vessels from an all-electric trailer parked inside a gorgeous native plant nursery. ☕️🌿

🥣This Week in Behind the Bake: Diving Deeper into our Maple Granola!
🔎WHAT’S INSIDE: Our Maple Granola gets points for being both Vegan and Gluten Free! Cinnamon sticks from our favorite spice purveyor, Oregon’s Red Ape CInnamon, provide a kick of spice, and we use gluten free oats from Bob’s Red Mill. Each batch is sweetened with McLure’s New England Maple Syrup, and an added crunch comes from our blend of toasted nuts and seeds - plus a hint of tang from plump, dried cranberries.
📘COACH’S NOTES: - Maple Granola has been a part of our line-up from the very beginning, one of our OG Varsity recipes that we’ve carried through the years.
❤️WHY WE LOVE IT: Perfect in a bowl for breakfast, perhaps layered with yogurt, fruit and a little honey, our Maple Granola is the not too sweet treat we reach for at our staff family meals. It’s also highly snackable - don’t be afraid to munch straight from the bag (sometimes it’s a long ride home!). We even have a few devotees who request to have it mailed to them long-distance; it’s truly something special.

🥣This Week in Behind the Bake: Catching up with our Gluten Free Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
🔎WHAT’S INSIDE: Our Gluten Free Oatmeal Raisin Cookies get their extra oatiness from both rolled and steel cut oats, plus oat flour - all from Bob’s Red Mill and all completely gluten free. We use a blend of dark and golden raisins which are poached in simple syrup, making them extra plump and juicy. They are perfectly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg from Red Ape Cinnamon, an Oregon-based company we love who harvest only the best spices, grown along the sides of volcanoes near the Equator - and they donate 5% of their profits to protecting orangutans!
📘COACH’S NOTES: As part of our original line up, our Gluten Free Oatmeal Raisin Cookies have a special place in our hearts - they were the next cookies we developed after our Salted Chocolate Chippers. We first started working on gluten free recipes on behalf of Chef Annarose’s mom, one of our favorite people to bake for.
♥️WHY WE LOVE THEM: Craveable any time of the year, our Gluten Free Oatmeal Cookies have a special affinity with autumn, and are completely delicious without any need for wheat flour (and safe for those of you unable to consume gluten). You’ll find the same is true for our full gambit of gluten free items - our Maple Granola, Ginger Cookies, Milk Chocolate Walnut Chippers, plus our fan favorite Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins.

🍪This Week in Behind the Bake, We’re Talking Chippers!
🔎WHAT’S INSIDE: Our blend of flours is highlighted by Tehachapi Grain Project’s delicious Sonora White Winter Wheat, milled from heritage grains that are naturally lower in gluten and thrive in California’s Mediterranean climate. We source our chocolate from Guittard, America’s oldest continuously family-run company of chocolatiers, who have been crafting chocolate in the Bay Area for over 150 years. Lastly, our Chippers are topped with a sprinkle of Maldon Sea Salt, harvested in Essex, England, and beloved for its naturally formed pyramid-shaped crystals that provide a delicate crunch.
📘COACH’S NOTES: The name ‘Chipper’ is as old as the chocolate chip cookie itself - according to lore, they were first created at The Toll House Inn, when founder Ruth Wakefield broke up a chocolate bar into chips, folding them into her cookie dough, and was surprised to find that the chocolate pieces held their shape through the bake. Even closer to home, Chef Annarose Davis was inspired by her grandmother Mary Lou’s 1950’s recipe for ‘Chippers’ while developing our current formula.
♥️WHY WE LOVE THEM: These are the classic treat that nearly everyone craves, with a crispy outer edge and tender, chewy middle, finished with that tangy hint of salt. We make them big enough to share - if you like.

📘COACH’S NOTES: Chef Jeffrey de Leon developed the formula for our croissants while training to compete in the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie in 2016.
♥️WHY WE LOVE THEM: Versatility!! Though they are delicious as-is, our croissants also make fantastic sandwiches, pair perfectly with jams and other spreads, and can be torn into an amazing bread pudding. They’re happy to show up for breakfast, lunch, snacks AND dessert.
