The first permanent monument to memorialize October 7, was unveiled by Varda and Jess Fields at the Shalom Baruch Jewish Cemetery at Rosewood in the Houston area.
Omer Shem Tov was honored with The Lone Star of Israel Award. Consul General Livia Link-Raviv, senior officials from U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn and Governor Greg Abbott’s offices, along with Texas Senator Joan Huffman all participated in the ceremony.

The dedication ceremony honored @omer_shemtov with The Lone Star of Israel Award. Consul General Livia Link-Raviv, senior officials from U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn and Governor Greg Abbott’s offices, along with Texas Senator Joan Huffman all participated in the ceremony.
2026 Collage Speakers Zibby Owens, Tessa Veksler, and Wendy Sachs with Lion of Judah Sponsor Varda Fields (Shalom Baruch Jewish Cemetery), who gifted each speaker a necklace by Israeli artist Yaron Bob — crafted from reclaimed missile fragments that landed in Israel.

StandWithUs was honored to be a presenting partner and to have StandWithUs Central Regional Director, Josh Arbital address the crowd alongside local presenting partners.
We also had the honor of hearing from Omer Shem Tov, a former hostage who spent 505 days in Hamas captivity in Gaza. He honored the hostages and the IDF soldiers that have fallen since protecting Israel since October 7, 2023.

After four years of hard work, SHALOM BARUCH, the first Jewish cemetery section at Rosewood in honor of my beloved father is now open. With vision, team work, and dedication, we are excited to deliver this labor of love to the Houston Jewish community.
Thank you to all of our friends, family, Mayors, Police Chiefs, Harris County Commissioner, City Council Members, former U.S. Congressman, and Rabbis that took part in this historic day!
We concluded the ceremony with guests placing notes of prayer in the replica of The Western Wall - The Kotel, which will be delivered to Jerusalem, as well as the release of yellow balloons in honor of release of the Israeli hostages.
