Our 2025-26 Season ended on a high note at the Orpheum last night with a fabulous performance by @hayatosumino . His program included works by Bach, Chopin, Gershwin and Ravel, interspersed with his own compositions. The three encores were Chopin: Etude in C major, Op. 10 No.1, Kapustin: Toccatina, No. 3 from Eight Etudes Op. 40, and Sumino: 7 Variations on Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. The grateful audience hung on to every note. What a unique and virtuosic talent! Thank you, Hayato, for a wonderful evening of music. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future! 📷: Tianze Peng

Big thanks to the fabulous @ukuleleorchestra for a delightful afternoon of music and humour at the Orpheum yesterday. They dazzled us all with their virtuosic renditions of songs by David Bowie, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Nirvana and Lady Gaga, theme tunes from James Bond (Thunderball) and The Muppets, some classical pieces by Tchaikovsky, Handel and Pachelbel, and a particularly memorable disco gem by Sylvester! We left the theatre with huge smiles on our faces. You know we'll be bringing them back. Of course! 👏😊

We can’t wait to welcome the talented pluckers from the @ukuleleorchestra back to the VRS. These all-singing, all-strumming ukulele players have become a worldwide phenomenon, winning legions of fans with their quicksilver arrangements and dry British humour. Catch them at the Orpheum tomorrow at 3pm for a wildly entertaining afternoon of film scores, rock ’n’ roll, pop, jazz, blues and classical music. This is feel-good music at its best! It was our great pleasure to welcome pianist Víkingur Ólafsson to our stage in his VRS debut at the Chan Centre last night. And what a memorable debut it was! Víkingur enthralled us with a program of works in the keys of E major and E minor by Bach, Beethoven and Schubert, culminating in Beethoven’s sublime Piano Sonata No. 30, Opus 109. There were three encores — J.S. Bach: Air on a G String (arr. Víkingur Ólafsson), Rameau: Rappel des oiseaux, and Sigvaldi Kaldalóns: Ave Maria (arr. Víkingur Ólafsson). Thank you, Víkingur, for a wonderful evening of music. Leila is already making plans for your return! 👏

We experienced a delightful afternoon of music at the Playhouse yesterday courtesy of two wonderful Vancouver-based artists: clarinettist Jose Franch-Ballester and pianist David Fung. They enchanted the VRS audience with a program of Brahms, Poulenc, Schumann, Jörg Widmann, and Dorothy Chang. The encore was Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone. Thank you, Jose and David, we loved every minute of it! And we look forward to welcoming you back to our stage in the future. 👏🙂 📷: Tianze Peng
