If you've been thinking about pruning your fruit tree's now is the time (ideally pre-bloom) ! Don't have the tools or don't want to buy new ones? We'll... Vancouver Tool Library is here to help. VTL is a cooperative tool lending library in East Vancouver. VTL has pruners, hand saw's and ladders available so you tackle your seasonal prune. Check them out.
If you're looking to learn some pruning basics and missed our Workshop, @urbanbountyrichmond is running a few workshops in early April. There's also plenty of great online resources including @homeorchardeducationcenter@orchardpeople and many more. Don't hesitate to reach out and we're happy to send some resources your way.

❄️Winter Tree Care Workshop! ❄️
If you are looking to learn about tree care 🫶🏼, we are running an upcoming fruit tree pruning workshops with Levon from @foodscapeenterprises ! The workshop will cover the essentials of pruning, how to’s, and general tips for healthy trees and good fruit harvest’s. This is an introductory workshop and the goal is for you to feel empowered to try pruning yourself!

* Saturday March 7th - 11AM
(Grandview Woodland Neighbourhood)
Location details will be sent 24hr before workshop. You will receive confirmation email before hand.

🗣 VFTP IS LOOKING FOR NEW BOARD MEMBERS
⭐️ We are seeking 2 new individuals to join our board of directors. The position is for a two-year term of office. As a registered grassroots charity operated in a modest annual budget, we rely on our committed & enthusiastic board and volunteers to keep the project running. We are looking to fill the following positions : Board Member At Large & Treasurer.
🍐 About VFTP: We are a volunteer run, community based, registered charity that has been tackling local food waste and food insecurity in Vancouver since 1999. Our mission is to celebrate the bounty of the urban orchard, aid inclusive food networks and cultivate community. Since our inception we’ve rescued over 123,000 lbs of fruit and redistributed them to different organizations that offer food programming including community center a, food hubs, day cares, senior homes, shelters and more.

We’ve been hibernating a lil and scheming for the 2026 fruit season 🍎 We’ve got a few winter happening this month, here’s a little update:

Deep into Fall after a few weeks of relaxing, staying cosy, hiding from the rain we picked up our gear for a few persimmon harvests! Yay! We’re so proud of the 2025 fruit season, thanks to all of our volunteers & supporters we’ve managed to harvest 12,767 lbs of fruit and run 114 picks ⭐️🐛 this includes apples, crab apples, pears, Asian pears, quinces, persimmons, cherries, plums and grapes !
Stay tuned for updates regarding our Season Wrap Up event which will be happening the first week of December. We’ll be celebrating the urban orchard and looking back on an awesome harvest season ⭐️🎶
VFTP building a Asian pear specific recipe zine & looking for your input 🎶
This season we harvested and distributed over 1,100 lbs of Asian/nashi pears 😮. To celebrate the urban bounty, build awareness and encourage people to try something new, we’re looking to put together a community recipe zine that will be freely accesible online! If you are interested in submitting a recipe please see the link in our bio to access the google form for recipe proposals. Please do not submit the actual recipe at this stage. Honorariums available for successful recipe applicant’s 💙

Quinces & Asian pears from last week!! We have officially picked fruit from more than 100 trees this season & harvested and redistributed over 10,800 lbs of fruit 🎶🌞🍏 thanks everyone who’s come joined the harvest, received & shared fruit & generally supported VFTP throughout the season.
