Today, I explored the enchanting village of Gerberoy with the wonderful group from @vanessarothe Americans in Paris and @workshopsinfrance , I slipped away for a quiet moment in the gardens of Henri Le Sidaner. 🇫🇷🎨
I found a private little view near his home and tucked myself beneath an old tree to hide from the rain. ☔️ Painting in the rain was definitely a challenge because water and water-mixable oils aren’t exactly the best combination 😂 — but I love my @cobraoilpaint and painting in the rain!!
Wandering through his tiny atelier and luminous gardens felt like stepping directly into one of his paintings. Now I’m even more excited to see his masterworks at the Musée d’Orsay. ✨

Here at the 10th Annual VRFA Americans in Paris and workshops in France art retreat I set up a recreation of Edward Manet’s painting the Dejeuner sur l’herbe. Three of us spoke about group composition and explained how to capture the three figures using angles and negative space. @juliettearistides@vanessarothe and @patrickleeart and then all of us painted together with the students to try and capture this beautiful moment in Normandy. The clouds finally parted for a quiet afternoon in the French countryside during a unique opportunity to paint with my good friends @vanessarothe of “Americans in Paris” and @workshopsinfrance . 🇫🇷🎨
I slipped away to paint an old farmhouse nestled in a lush green and yellow field while listening to a chorus of birdsong. Even a curious donkey wandered over to watch me paint.
The beautiful figures moving through the canola flowers were our beautiful models, and they felt almost dreamlike drifting through the fields. I’m excited to paint them in the garden tomorrow!
One of those fleeting moments that already feels like a memory.
