These beauties were successfully delivered to the ladies of @houseofruthdc shelter !
Thank you to those of you who participated… it’s a blessing to be a blessing!
My work has always been rooted in championing survivors and addressing interpersonal violence. But through this journey, I’ve come to understand something broader and equally powerful: the beauty of community. When you build spaces that are safe, joyful, and rooted in connection, you realize that the true culture is one that fosters belonging, vulnerability, and care.
Community is the answer, and the community that continues to grow and thrive through our events is what I’m most proud of. If you’ve experienced it firsthand, share your favorite memory or moment below. 🫶🏽
This is year 3! We remember the women of Enugu!
I have been a credentialed victim advocate for survivors of abuse for over 15 years now. Three years ago, I felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit to visit a shelter while in Lagos for Detty December. I knew it wasn’t just an idea, and that it was divine instruction, so without hesitation I began researching shelters.
Three years later, what started as a quick visit has evolved into an important mission and initiative to remember our people back home.
“We Remember You” is not only God’s promise to us, but it’s the diaspora promise to those struggling on the continent.
Thank you to our donor, supporters and partners for remembering the women of Enugu. They are SO happy! I pray that God increases and expands you ❤️🫶🏽 May your donation sow a seed for bigger and better in your lives, amen. 🙏🏾
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
This month I’ve been reflecting on the four years I spent as a part-time crisis line advocate. What I learned there changed the way I show up for everyone around me.
Because everyone is surviving something.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out about this work.
It truly means so much.
What I hope you take away is this: supporting those in need isn’t about charity, it’s collective responsibility. It’s investment in infrastructure where we can all thrive, not just in our careers, but as whole people. It’s how we build resilient communities that lift each other up through whatever comes.
New here? Allow me to introduce myself! A true girl’s girl building a creating spaces where women can thrive ❤️

As seen in the New York Times 🙏🏾
If you know me, then you know I’ve been building communities for over 15 years. Always in service to women.
When I started Black Women Rising, it was in response to so many of my homegirls being laid off and needing a job. I was doing my best to connect them to companies where I knew people and figured, if we could just get a group of connected friends together and tell them to invite their friends - we could help combat whatever the heck was happening in the job market.
To my surprise, when I woke up the next morning, well over 500 women had joined the then WhatsApp group.
I panicked and deactivated immediately with my threads, IG and WhatsApp DMs going crazy to add them. The urgency was clear. And it was really disappointing to see just how bad things had gotten. Unemployment among Black women is almost at 8%. I’m not here to fear monger or push conspiracy theories, I’m here to help.
We’ve since transitioned to discord and added a form layer which automatically sends a discord link to join. The form layer screens out spammers, trolls etc. Check the bio for the link.
More than anything, this group needs resources - coaches, resume reviewers, job referrals/ postings etc. 🫶🏽 Shoot me a DM to support

This is year 3!
3 years ago started as a visit to a shelter with just 25 women, 11k naira pp and a small bag of gifts in Lagos
Last year we brought catered meal, mobile mocktail bar, 20k Naira pp, bags of groceries, music/dancing, brand new clothing from Zephan & Co, free healthcare screenings and more for 50 women in Lagos
#dettydecember #lagosweddings #womensupportingwomen #nigerianwoman #asoebistyle
But THIS year?! We gave out over 200 meals across Enugu and Lagos/Ogun, bags of groceries at 18k per bag, medical screenings, 10k naira pp, almost 100 pieces of Zephan & Co clothing + beautiful new / gently used donated clothing, Ami Cole makeup, music fun and so much more
The growth is actually shocking - we are blessed. Thank you to all of you amazing humans for your love and support
