Student Choreography Showcase
~ PERCEPTIONS~
Perceptions features original choreography by Brian Urena, Ezekiel Edwards, Jaelle Campbell, Jaida Perez, Madison Rojas, Nehir Tan, and Valentina Olaya-Florez. The Showcase is an opportunity for Queens College student choreographers, dancers, costume and lighting designers to collaborate on creating and performing original works, that reflect a variety of dance styles and dive into the joy, turmoil, and beauty of life. Join us for a vivacious dance experience at Queens College!

Valentina Olaya-Florez (Choreographer)
@valeolayaf is a dancer and musician born in Queens, NY into a family of artists from Barranquilla, Colombia. When she was three years old, she started dancing with the family company, Karla Florez School of Dance, which is rooted in Colombian Caribbean culture, dance and rhythms. Valentina has studied the violin, as well as the drums and flute which are central to Colombian Caribbean music. Through KFSD Valentina has performed in many festivals and cultural events including the Queensboro Dance Festival, Hispanic Day Parade, Dance Parade NYC, Carnaval de Barranquilla in Colombia, and the exhibition Urban Stomp: Dreams & Defiance on the Dance Floor at the Museum of the City of New York. Valentina has also collaborated and performed with Rueda De Oro, Queens Rising, La Cumbiamba NY, Cumbiamba Palma Africana, and Comparsa Identidad. She is in the short documentary film, Somos Cumbia, Somos Familia, about her family dance company. Currently Valentina is the co-director of Karla Florez School of Dance, and a Dance Major at Queens College, where she has found a talented and supportive community of fellow artists.
