In German, Duden defines Fehlerkultur as “an open, constructive way of dealing with mistakes.”
About a month has passed since that day in the Sellrain.
This winter had been unusually tricky and, in many ways, dangerous. That was one of the reasons why I had been very passive for most of the season and had hardly skied any steep terrain.
So when the avalanche danger level went down a bit finally, the motivation was definitely there.
We tried to make sense of the snowpack, talked through the situation and tried to make a careful decision based on what we knew at the time. But looking back, I am not sure whether we were fully aware of the risk — or whether we had already started to rationalise the situation.
To me, it feels like a typical pattern. Not recklessness. Not acting blindly. More like slowly talking ourselves into a situation because we wanted it to work.
Mistakes in the mountains do not always start with ignorance or bad intentions. Sometimes they start with motivation, decent preparation, honest effort — and a subtle shift in how we interpret what is in front of us.
I am not posting this for attention or clicks. I am posting it because writing it down is part of processing it. And because social media can make it look like everything in the mountains is always beautiful, easy and full of happy moments.
But sometimes it is not.
Sometimes you come home with more questions than answers.
And I think it is important to show that side too.
Video 1 is me. Video 2 is @christoph.wiesmayer ‚testing’ the snowback ‚secured’ on a rope.
Video 3: also wiesi who dropped in first - nothing happened there
At one point, I pulled my avalanche airbag and tried to stay on the surface. I ended up partially buried up to my stomach. No injuries.
I am incredibly grateful that I was out there with this crew. I trusted everyone completely and still do.
And one last thing:
I made the decision to ski that face myself.
We made a mistake and got lucky. I do not take this experience light and lessons have been learned.
Winter has been a strange one so far. Barely any snow, and when it finally arrived, the conditions were super sketchy.
Staying optimistic and looking forward to some long spring missions in the mountains. ❄️🏔️☀️

No distractions, just skiing done right.
Ending the day with good food only made it better.

A little late to the game, but here’s a short recap of my 2025.
I know many of you struggled a bit this year, and for me it wasn’t all happy and peppy either. But all in all, it’s been an amazing year — and if 2026 is even half as cool, I won’t complain.
Wishing you all the very best for 2026, and thanks to everyone who made my 2025 such a blast 🤍

Merci pour ce temps merveilleux mon 🥐-🧌@valentinpossert 😘

Could it be better?
Probably not.
But sometimes our thoughts get stuck in a “what’s next” state.
We forget to take a moment.
to breathe.
to appreciate how far we’ve come ✨
and, most importantly, the people around us 🤍

Happy to have @clara__johanna and @valentinpossert as Elevenate Friends. Exploring the mountains with Innsbruck as their base, they inspire us to get out there and keep chasing the state of Elevenate. Grab the gear (+coffee) and go ⛰️

Gesucht: schweizer Granittouren nicht zu wild. 🙂
