it’s been a minute - after a small break I’m back to promote this lovely show of mostly artists from Pittsburgh and DC’s own Ben Jenkins (solo live set) - it’s the last Wednesday of this month - hope you can make it ッ some pepper is daby/ David L Byrne from lounge act Charmaine’s Names and spy rock band De Klok. daby uses feedback in all it’s incarnations; audio, video, radio, biological, philosophical. A master router, daby will sometimes give instructions live or on video for feedback synthesis, and can be found on youtube and elsewhere as profquad. Recently moved to the promised land of Pittsburgh, daby has been diving into sound reactive video feedback synthesis, and collecting too many tvs. New Jersey-born Ali Berger is a drum machine specialist and low-key US dance music standby, now based in Pittsburgh after spending the 2010s in Boston and Detroit. His catalog of original music runs deep, with over 80 releases on his Trackland label and EPs on imprints like Scissor & Thread, Spectral Sound, and Sequencias, all resulting from a lovingly-cultivated studio approach which respects improvisation as a spiritual practice. Ben Jenkins is a cool DC guy that is aka Partial Magic - he produces, DJ’s and on this night will perform a rare solo live set - let’s goooooooo frogonbough is an experimental musician whose practice spans glitch, ambient, noise, and drone. slowdanger anna thompson and taylor knight are slowdanger, a multidisciplinary duo creating work at the intersection of movement, sound, and technology. Their music fuses experimental club, noise, and ambient influences with processed vocals and deep rhythmic textures, producing visceral environments that invite both listening and movement. Interdisciplinary artist Franxx (DC based) interprets their universe through a variety of media. There’s a sense of play and purity with what they’re able to access in pushing and blending the boundaries of music, fashion, graphic design, and performance. As a Latinx Pop musician they are heavily influenced by the soundscape of the late 90’s/00’s and a desire to create community surrounding the revolution of higher consciousness, their music is crafted on the wide architecture of experimental electronic sound - lyrically gliding on the boundary of the gender binary, awareness and subconscious, delivered with a punch of authenticity and passion, Franxx creates safe spaces where all people can be free. A nite not to miss ✍︎✍︎ ticket link in bio ♫ Lifted is the duo of Max D (Future Times/Beautiful Swimmers) and Matt Papich debut on Peak Oil following full-lengths for Future Times and PAN with a fresh suite of tactile, diffuse fusion. Half the collection emerged from a 2021 session at Tempo House rounded out by @dustin_clarence_h_wong , Mezey, and Jeremy Hyman, while the rest took shape in moments both collaborative and isolated, collaged together with CDJs into something more liquid and liminal than the sum of its parts. Across fractured jazz, pitch-shifted downtempo, revelatory guitar, and interstitial interplay, Lifted’s sound is one of flux, fragments, and filigree. Oblique harmonic synergies dusted in chance encounters and rogue acoustics. Diverse moods mapped with split strings and the space between notes. Music untethered by form or expectation, snaking like an ungrounded cable through a geodesic dome of deep-listening. Androgynous Bulge Is an electronic duo out of Baltimore made up of Hayden and J. To know is to experience ☽ Overlight Penchant - Alias of Jean Paul Pantaleon. Overlight Penchant is gleefully untethered from musical tradition, often even from basic tenants like rhythm or key. Motifs recognizable and comforting in a different context float in and out of frame — always juxtaposed against a contrasting element, inducing an uncomfortable, but oddly familiar tension in the listener.

Save the date ✍︎ There will be 🍿 + treats + tea :) I’m No Longer Here (2020) or Ya no estoy aquí (2020) looks at the life of Ulises a 17 year old boy who is part of a gang named “Los Terkos” (“The Stubborn”) as he is exiled from his community in Mexico after a misunderstanding. Ulises then goes to New York City as he lives in Queens and begins to navigate his new life as a foreigner in a new world. This journey is met with discrimination, self doubt, and an identity crisis. A beautiful masterpiece 🌹

A special @valentinabooking on 12.12.24 - it all shakes down to 3 ☄︎ Sug + Slug Beat is an improvising group steeped in jazz, fusion, house, and lots of other groove music, assembled by Sug interpret material from 2024’s Slug Beat on Lizard Label. This version of the group features @kiernanlaveaux on CDJs and mixer, @johnnyzoloft on drums, and @slug_zone on guitar. Sug has released tapes on Hausu Mountain and the album Music for Cycling Waste on disused iPod Nanos via Dreamtone. Kiernan Laveaux and Jonny Zoloft just released their debut EP Pancake of the Infinite as JZKL on Sweet Abyss. Graham Hatke is a dj and producer from Baltimore, Maryland. He runs the perfectly manicured record store @e2e4records in which his impressive curation fills the bins and walls. As with many true music geniuses his low key and modest demeanor does not encapsulate all the ways in which he contributes to the music community – connecting djs from around the world and bringing them to Baltimore for truly intentional dance functions. As a dj he creates a boundless journey that will keep you joyfully dancing to his most impressive collection while in awe of his technical expertise. Now Graham will share another window into his musical experimentation with a first-time live set – not to be missed. Joyce Lim is a household name in the DC music community, doing the work of 10-20 people in one magical person. She runs a niche record label 1432 R, creates the artwork for the releases, co-created a much-needed queer @danceclub.link and is a beloved dj whose bouncy dance moves entice us alongside her wide-ranging music taste. A trained pianist, it is no surprise that Joyce has entered the experimental live world of music. A treasure of a person, will grace us with yet another talent of hers to fall in love with.

*just added to bill @su_dance110 𓇢 Experience a truly diverse bill at rhizome Monday 11/18 show at 7:30pm doors at 7:15pm **** over by 10pm Dan Su (aka su dance110) is an avant-garde Chinese transdisciplinary artist, composer, choreographer, and founder of 3087 Records. They work with sound and movement in the contexts of performance, music, and art. Their background in quantitative methodology and dance motivates their thinking in both conceptual and bodily ways. Their performances delve into psychological, cybernetic, ontological, and personal realms with daring experiments, addressing topics such as structural violence and marginality. Thalia Zedek is probably best known for her stints as lead singer for the NYC noise rockers Live Skull in the 80’s and as the lead singer/ guitarist in the Boston based Come in the 90’s, but she has been releasing haunting solo records under both her own name and under the Thalia Zedek Band moniker on the Matador and Thrill Jockey labels since the early aught’s and for the last 10 years has also been 1/3 of the Boston based noise rock group E, who recently released their 5th LP on Silver Rocket.
