April held something new for us. Our first Conscious Arts Retreat. A few days of slowing down, working with our hands, and sharing space in a quieter, more intentional way. One of the quiet revelations of the week was noticing how much we try to plan our rest, to structure what should feel spacious. And yet, the moments that really feed us tend to arrive unexpectedly: lingering a little longer in a late-night conversation, saying yes to an extra spoonful of whipped cream, stretching time just enough to let something real unfold. It was a truly lovely group to host. Open and present with one another in a way that shaped the whole experience and the sense of community that emerged felt deeply nourishing. Thank you to the incredible team and facilitators 🙏 @eloisegracewinter @ahsokabanana @e.l.bango @margarida_madhuri @nomadanotebooks We’re hoping to host another edition at the end of summer. Stay tuned.

We made it past winter, and March felt like everything waking up at once. Bumblebees are loud, animals on full zoomies, valley in bloom and the sun is finally sticking around. We’ve been getting things ready, jumping on the spring wave to welcome the start of the retreat season.

The rose bush on the courtyard wall is putting out its first leaves. The same on that drapes itself in hundreds of blooms every spring and has been doing so for almost 100 years. Everywhere around us the valley is beginning its playful awakening. We’ve also been quietly getting things ready. Spaces being thought out, details of the season taking shape, plenty of smelling-the-flowers breaks. It doesn’t feel like gearing up so much as falling into the rhythm that already reverberates through the valley. Spring is here and the first retreats are close. If you feel called to join us this year, all the details are through the link in our bio.

The buildings and structures you find around the valley didn't arrive all at once. Some of the houses have been here for centuries, while many terrace walls are longer still. It’s been slowly shaped over the years, by hand, to meet the needs of the families that lived here. Andrew learnt stone building alongside Vonetta over 15 years ago, during the early days of rebuilding Vale de Moses. What started as necessity to rebuild the ruins of the houses and fix fallen terraces, became a craft in it's own right. He is also a wonderful sharer of knowledge and he recorded his process of rebuilding a wall that fell with the heavy winter rains near the Moses cottage (the oldest property). Endearingly called a "fim de semana", a weekend (as that's usually how long it takes) these tasks of repairing and nourishing our spaces are part of the natural rhythm of life here.

Our Belle Tents at Vale de Moses are set on individual stone terraces, tucked under the shade of wild strawberry trees. They offer a private stay without ever feeling far from nature. And the perfect base to wander forest trails, listen to the birds at dawn, and watch the stars spill across the valley at night. You can choose single, twin, or double beds, all with comfy mattresses, fresh linen, and towels provided. Each tent has electricity for lights and charging devices and a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings. Nearby, hammocks and loungers invite you to relax, while bathrooms and showers (indoor and outdoor) are just a short walk away.

First, the sisters: Ras and Tafari. They both take their time with new people. Ras tends to be the first to soften and, once she warms up to you, she will happily settle in for some proper cuddles. Tafari tends to keep to herself and can be surprisingly hard to spot around the land… but when she does decide it’s cuddle time, she might just be the most affectionate of them all. Tomato is the newest member of the family. He appeared in the courtyard a couple of weeks ago and simply decided Vale de Moses was his home. He’s still slowly settling in while fully being doted on by the humans and receiving the occasional lecture from the two sisters. Before them, there was Angel, who was part of our family for 24 years and guarded the valley from her lush green roof. A small but very loved part of life at Vale de Moses.

This is what a day in the valley can look like. Moments of focus, rest, and quiet inspiration appear naturally. A week to slow down, reconnect, and let the valley guide your time.

The evening fire does more than make the living room cosy. It feeds the boiler, sending hot water through the radiators that warm both buildings of the farmhouse. Before that happens there’s a fair amount of work involved: trees cut, logs split, wood stacked and carried in. Mostly Joshua's department. By the time the fire catches and the pipes start gently humming through the house, Ana tends to emerge with a cup of tea, ready to enjoy the warmth. A very efficient system, all things considered.

The shala sits just above the kitchen gardens and courtyard, part of the farmhouse where most of life at Vale de Moses unfolds. It embodies the balance between the yin and yang energies in the valley. The wooden floors, walls and bolsters offer comfort and support. And through the windows, the sunlight, the breeze and the sounds of bridsong and rushing waters enter. The space invites both rest and movement. It has held many kinds of practice: yoga, meditation, breathwork, sharing circles, journalling, workshops, and quiet reflection. When the mats are rolled away, it also becomes a space for children to play. The room adapts easily, whether the focus is movement, stillness, or simply being together. We have retreats running from April through November. If you're feeling called to join us, or bring to your own group, link in bio.
