Lebt und arbeitet in Wien
Contemporary Art from Vienna
01.05. – 26.10.2026
Kunsthalle Wien presents the most extensive survey of the Viennese contemporary art scene organised by the institution in over a decade. For six months, across all of its spaces in the Museumsquartier and Karlsplatz, ‚Lebt und arbeitet in Wien: Contemporary Art from Vienna ‚ will bring together over 130 artworks by 56 artists who live and work in Vienna, including painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, performance, sound, film and video. Accompanied by a public programme of talks, performances and events, it places emphasis on the city as a dynamic space of production where art is shaped by a critical approach to the forces of conservatism and a sense of its own agency.
Initially organised by Kunsthalle Wien in 2000, the fifth edition of ‚Lebt und arbeitet in Wien‘ builds upon a longstanding tradition of celebrating Vienna’s lively artistic discourse and diverse community of artists. Curated by Daniel Baumann, Michelle Cotton and Monika Georgieva.
Very happy to share a first view of one of the paintings that are part of „Lebt und arbeitet in Wien – Contemporary Art from Vienna“ @kunsthallewien . Grateful to have had the opportunity to conceive a new body of work for this occasion, and a big shoutout to everyone involved, it has been a great experience.

Opening: 30.04.2026, 6–10 pm
I’m very excited to present my new book this Friday @la_salle_de_bains . Please do feel most welcome, it would be fantastic if you find time to join us. ✨
Conceived as a spatial and conceptual extension of my exhibition Entre-deux, I’m very much looking forward to a conversation with Julie Portier about the process of its making. Many thanks to everyone involved in bringing this publication to life, and a special shout-out to @dorotheabrunialti .

I’m happy to share some recent test prints from the new book I’ve been working on, conceived as an extension to my exhibition @la_salle_de_bains earlier this year. The process has been deeply immersive, and I’m truly lucky to have had @julie__portier and @dorotheabrunialti accompany me throughout. ✨
How does artistic meaning change over time? How is it formed, displaced and reactivated? At what point does a work begin? What happens when time is understood not as linear progression, but as a system of portals and passages? Within this framework, artworks and spatial settings act as agents that attach themselves across time, opening new pathways and shifting interpretative frameworks.

Different states of the same. Have been enjoying a lot working with reflective materials for this new series. Rather nocturnal in the way how they respond to darkness.
Very happy to share some installation views from my recent show @ve.sch.kunstverein , bringing together a new series of paintings within a spatial intervention. Many thanks to Martin and Hans Jürgen for their unwavering support and dedication. And a big shout out to everyone who took the time to stop by in person, it really means a lot to me. ✨
Thank you all for coming to the opening on Thursday!
I’d like to highlight two upcoming events — a special cocktail on Sept 18 and an artist talk with Hans Jürgen Hauptmann on Sept 25. @ve.sch.kunstverein will be open on both evenings from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.
