Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of the exhibition ‘Marina Faust: VON BIS / FROM TO’ and made it such a special evening. The exhibition currently on view at Phileas at Opernring 17 is conceived as a preview of her forthcoming project at the Frac-Artothèque Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The exhibition is co-produced by Phileas and will travel to Limoges, France this autumn. Faust’s work explores objects and their shifting functions. Through subtle interventions and changes of context, familiar items lose their original purpose and take on a new presence as sculptural forms. Processes of appropriation and transformation add further layers of meaning. At Phileas, the presentation focuses on Faust’s shoe series, shown for the first time. Developed over many years, the series brings together a wide range of shoe forms – from fashion to those linked to erotic culture – which Faust deconstructs, wraps, and reshapes. ‘Marina Faust: VON BIS / FROM TO’ is on view until 26 September 2026. We’re looking forward to welcoming you during our opening hours: Tuesday–Friday, 11am–5pm, and Saturday, 11am–3pm. @marina____faust____ @fracartotheque @mariannederrien Thank you to @lillet @zwettlerbier @voeslauermineralwasser for supporting this event. Hello Image Die Inszenierung der Dinge bis 12.4.26 The artist Marina Faust began documenting the work of fashion designer Martin Margiela in 1990. In contrast to the star designers of the 1990s who amassed a cult following, Margiela has always cultivated invisibility. Part of his strategy in 1990 was to invite Marina Faust – who came from a background in photojournalism rather than fashion photography – to take backstage photos, which also included photo shoots in the showroom and, as an exception, lookbooks. ambulant # 11 - the warm light version 2023 #marinafaust #giannimanhattan metal, galvanized metal, aluminum, brass, glass (crystal glass, blown glass and pressed glass), LED light bulbs, electric wire, battery, dimmer, rubber, rubber wheels low voltage (12/24V) Her most recent works are called ‘ambulants’, light sculptures that are self-constructed chandeliers put on wheels and running on batteries. In these pieces different historic periods merge, conservative rules are ignored and subverted. The chandeliers are stripped from their original fixed positions on ceilings and shown at human height hanging within metal frames that are on wheels and therefore mobile.

my foulard for tutu.wien is out now! The foulard for TuTu.Wien is a double portrait. My mother had acquired this scarf in the 1960s. She only dressed in grey and black, had extraordinary taste, and was always ahead of her time. This piece represents not only her exquisite style but also two eras: my childhood and the period when I began wearing the scarf myself. It accompanied me until it began to fall apart completely. Eventually, the time came when I decided to leave it in the drawer before it totally disintegrated. One day, I thought, it would find another purpose. Without a doubt, the most beautiful and meaningful phase is the one shown here — with the fullness of all it has witnessed. As a next step, I chose a color for the background: blue — the color of reason and infinity. Marina Faust, Juli 2025 #tutu.wien @tutu.wien
