The Pulse of Progress: Celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month 🎷
Jazz is more than a genre—it’s a global language of resilience, innovation, and expression. Born from the African American experience, it has traveled from Harlem’s streets to the world’s most prestigious stages, shaping how we think, create, and collaborate. Jazz teaches us that within structure, there is always space for individuality—for improvisation, leadership, and voice. In a world that often feels divided, Jazz remains a bridge—connecting cultures, communities, and the shared pursuit of freedom.
This April, HarlemCLX & HFAS18 proudly celebrate the transformative power of Jazz by honoring two extraordinary artists: Antoinette Montague, whose soulful “Jazz-Woman” spirit carries forward a legacy of community and culture, and Darrell Smith with the Darrell Smith Quartet, representing the next wave of innovation and sound. Together, they remind us—Jazz is not just our history, it is the rhythm driving our future.

⭐Artist Spotlight⭐: DLG3
DLG3 was born over 10 years ago through their love of Jazz, Soul and R&B music. As professional musicians working throughout NYC and the world, they bring their diverse influences together to take on a new approach to the world of jazz and improvised music. While rooted in the traditional organ trio format (Hammond organ, guitar, and drums) you can expect anything from Jimmy Smith to Stevie wonder with one thing in common, a deep groove, unbelievable chemistry and organic passion in their performances. No one performance is alike as they can interpret and reinterpret material with refreshing interaction and musical storytelling.
Join us on 04/18 for "Jazz Is Staten Island: An Evening of Jazz Fusion" featuring the Jazztronauts and DLG3!

Join us on 04/18 for "Jazz Is Staten Island": An Evening of Jazz Fusion!🎶
To commemorate Jazz Appreciation Month, Snug Harbor and Universal Temple of the Arts (UTA) are excited to treat Staten Island audiences to the rhythmic and groove driven genre of Jazz Fusion – an idiom of jazz that utilizes many electric instruments. UTA traditionally aims to reflect the diversity of jazz along with a memorable experience for jazz afficionados and newcomers alike. As Staten Island’s leading incubator for bold and innovative art, Snug Harbor is excited to highlight jazz artists across our campus and provide a venue for gathering and connectivity. Join us for a celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month and the historic milestone of the United States 250th Anniversary with the performances of two stylistically different groups under the umbrella of fusion: the Jazztronauts and the DLG3 trio.

Still thinking about the Staten Island Jazz Festival this past weekend—what a time! An incredible lineup and an honor to open for Grammy Award–winning artist Arturo O’Farrill, as well as hearing and seeing Randall’s mentor, the great Wycliffe Gordon. So inspired by performances from Brianna Thomas and Julie Maniscalco, all in the stunning St. George Theatre. What a beautiful way to close out 2025. Huge congratulations to Rashida and Todd Seward on a phenomenal event! 🎶✨ #soundsofaandr #jazz #aprilmaywebb #randallhaywood #jazzfestival
