When I was a kid, I used to go to cleft clinic once a year. There, I would be seen by the dentist, the audiologist, the speech therapist, the nutritionist, the surgeon, and so many other important players in comprehensive cleft treatment.
Comprehensive cleft care is just as important in every country around the world and Tess Unlimited is providing that in Guatemala.
While patients often travel hours for cleft surgery, Tessa’s team brings the additional care closer to them. Several times a year, they travel across Guatemala to provide evaluations for comprehensive cleft services (nutrition, audiology, speech therapy, ENT, and more) right in patients’ local communities, significantly reducing travel time.

Water doesn’t judge; it simply embraces.
For this series, I had the absolute honor of capturing my beloved Ashley (@cleftloveig )—a powerful spokesperson and advocate born with a cleft lip and palate. But to me, she is so much more than that. She is the love of my life. I am in constant awe of her strength, and I am endlessly grateful that she chooses to share her days, her light, and her beautiful journey with me. My admiration for her runs deeper than any sea. 💙
Taking these portraits underwater was a deliberate artistic choice. Beneath the surface, the noise of the world fades, leaving only pure, fluid movement and absolute freedom. We wanted to translate her resilience and self-acceptance into visual poetry—where her story is celebrated, and her true, raw beauty flows naturally.
This entire session was also deeply inspired by my friend and coach @marincosmos . Marin, your visionary work in underwater photography and water healing has always been a beacon for me. I hold a profound admiration and respect for the art you create, and this shoot is a heartfelt nod to the magic you bring to the depths.
