Working into shared reflections on the pairs recent travels to Drawing Matter Archive and Roberto Collovà’s Salemi Teatro. The drawing explores how memories are emplaced in our immediate-perceptual-surrounds.
‘Hosting: Home Truths’, it is an event-based exhibition, that translated ongoing archival research conducted by D’Arcy Newberry-Dupé alongside edible installations by Kate Foster for Melbourne Design Week 2024. This research project and accompanying event holds contemporary spatial practices alongside archival materials, interrogating the everyday rituals, habits and associated regimes of maintenance and labour that inform our domestic ecologies.

Throughout this project, not-so-distant legacies of women’s work, and ‘housewifery’ are interrogated as a primary device of constructing home environments in Australia’s domestic interiors. These practices are analysed through archival materials from The Emily McPherson College of Domestic Economy, during its period of operation from 1920-1970. The event tracing and digesting the boundaries and intermingling’s that are built up through our inherited everyday habits, routines, and rituals that define our sense of home, of self, of world: both interior and beyond.

The gallery becomes a home away from a house. A negotiation between bodies, bread and text that is traced in real time throughout the duration of the event, reflected in the slow dismemberment and digestion of the installations.

All of the Australian Tapestry Design Prize for Architect’s 2023 finalists are currently being exhibited at the Australian Tapestry Workshop in Naarm, as part of ‘Propositions’, displayed until May 24th.
The exhibition showcases sections of the 10 finalists designs, produced by weavers Leonie Bessant, Chris Cochius, Amy Cornall, Saffron Gordon, Tim Gresham, Pamela Joyce, David Pearce, Emma Sulzer and Caroline Tully. All fragments are available for purchase. Please visit if you are in Naarm!
