Reposted from @antonmoore14 Over the course of the year our @unityinthecommunity Carpentry Academy Class had the opportunity to remodel the Dixon House Kitchen under the direction of Mr.Gregg and Mrs.Pam Palmer.We stripped the kitchen from top to bottom , we rewired the entire kitchen , put up new walls , built cabinets from scratch , paint, replaced the sink , replaced the drop ceiling and much more.The young men did an awesome job and it really meant a lot to us to take on this project because the Dixon House has been a staple in our community from hosting Summer Camps , to assisting residents with housing , to allowing young men and women to play basketball in the gym , to assisting residents with residents and much more. Every young person that assisted us with this project deserves a pat on their back.We would like to thank Otis Bullock , Tehnille Hannah , Ms.Pat , Sam , David and many more for giving the young men an opportunity to make this happen. Thank you young men for seeing this project through.I love and appreciate you guys. Now that we are in our second class with our new young men , we look forward to teaching young men how to build and to also build them up personally to be positive role models in our community and keep them off the streets as well. In addition to that , once a month we are going to pick a senior citizen or a family from our community that can't afford to make repairs to their home and we are going to complete the work for them free of charge and we are going to provide the material as well.The goal is to show the young brothers to always reach back and help they neighbor. Pray for us as we go on this journey with our new group of young men!

Today at our Carpentry Academy class each child received their own tool kit set to help them in class and at home.They also learned how to do measurements and use a hand saw. Thank you to @christie_ileto and @6abc for covering our visit to the Khadijah Alderman Funeral Home with the young men from our Carpentry Academy! As we teach the young men a trade , we also provide them with mentorship and real life experiences when it comes to the issue of gun violence. Thank you to Khadijah Alderman and her entire staff for providing guidance for our students and allowing them to volunteer at her funeral home once a month. The young men are learning the basics of Carpentry and Automotive! This is what you call hands on experience.

The boys learned how to run electrical lines from the circuit breaker to the outlets, which led to the light switch that led to the light fixture! The young men can do anything as long as they put their minds to it! @unityinthecommunity

Today we hosted our Annual Iftar Night Market with some of the best food trucks from the community. We were able to provide 600 meals free of charge for our muslim brothers and sisters. Thank you to everyone that came out to volunteer and support our Muslim brothers and sisters. In addition to providing meals , we were able to hire and invest in small business from our community such as : @rocknflavors_ , @knjbreakfastlunch_catering , @beverlyshakurcatering , @grayson_kash_cafe , @cinyaessoulfood and @theuglyplatefoodtrailer Thank you to @daily.dove.care for being our sponsor. Every year we make sure that we are discipline and consistent when it comes to serving our community.

A couple of months ago @unityinthecommunity turned the Wells Fargo bank on the corner of 23rd & Snyder into a resource center. Today , we had the opportunity to team up with @etamunuques to distribute diapers , free full size mattress, toys , coats and much more. We were able to serve 250 families today. It was amazing seeing brothers take care of their family. We are looking forward to hosting more giveaways for our community. Thank you to each and every person that participated and volunteered.

Please join @unityinthecommunity and @etamunuques this Saturday , February 28th at 11:00 AM as we distribute diapers , free full size mattress, portable washers , toys and much more. Everything will be given out on a first come , first serve basis. Everything will be free. We look forward to seeing.
