At the May 8 ULA Ad Hoc Committee meeting, Ted Chandler, Senior Advisor to the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust, broke down why the attacks on ULA simply do not hold up to scrutiny. “To think that the way we can solve an affordable housing construction crisis is to cut the funding for affordable housing construction makes no sense whatsoever.” The housing crisis was not created by taxing luxury real estate sales. And it will not be solved by weakening one of the only major affordable housing funding streams our city has. ULA is working. And we’re not going backwards. 📧 Email your Councilmember and tell them to protect ULA. Link in bio.

They said ULA was killing housing production. So the housing movement pulled up with economists, union workers, affordable housing developers, tenants, and RECEIPTS. Last Friday, our coalition presented data and analysis to the ULA Ad Hoc Committee about what ULA is actually doing for Los Angeles. Turns out the sky is not falling. ULA is delivering, the false claims are not holding up, and weakening ULA would have devastating consequences for the people already struggling to stay housed. Affordable housing is getting built. Families are receiving support. People are staying housed. We cannot let City Hall reverse course now. ⚠️ TAKE ACTION! Tell City Council: Hands off ULA! 📧 Send an email at the link in bio.

‼️CALL TO ACTION TO DEFEND LA’S MANSION TAX:‼️ Please take 2 minutes to visit TinyUrl.com/ULAlinktoemail (also in @keeplahoused story and bio), to email City Council in support of preserving ULA’s crucial funding for homelessness prevention and affordable housing. Comment a 🏠 below once you’re done, and please share widely! — Opposition groups are pushing City Council to gut ULA by introducing sweeping exemptions to the tax, stripping funds from homelessness prevention and affordable housing. When 60% of voters passed ULA in 2022, they took bold action to address the cost of living and homelessness crises in LA. We need to respect the will of the voters and give ULA time to work, not undermine it while it’s just getting started with tax breaks for wealthy developers!

⁉️Do you believe in taxing the rich to build affordable housing?⁉️ We do too, and so did the nearly 60% of LA voters who voted in 2022 to pass Measure ULA, a tax on property sales >$5 million to fund affordable housing and homelessness prevention. Join us! As the LA City Council meets over the next month about ULA, and the real estate lobby complains about having to pay their fair share, we need to get loud about protecting it this historic tax. Join us tomorrow morning at City Hall at 7am. ‼️CALL TO ACTION: Can’t make it tomorrow? Take 2 minutes to email the Ad Hoc committee in support of protecting ULA. Go to tinyurl.com/ULAlinktoemail, or see @keeplahoused bio or story! Please share widely! ‼️

BREAKING: The ULA Ad Hoc Committee voted to move this funding forward. Over $360M for affordable housing is now one step closer to becoming real projects in our communities, supporting thousands of homes across LA. This funding will: • build new affordable housing • preserve existing homes • sustain housing so people can stay housed A major share is made possible by ULA — just as it marks 3 years of delivering for LA. We’re proud to stand with partners like @fctl_2019 and @ltsc.cdc , advancing community-rooted projects that keep land and housing in community hands. Next stop: full City Council. Let’s keep pushing to get these resources across the finish line. #ProtectULA #ULAisWorking

Debemos fortalecer ULA, no debilitarla.

$14 million in emergency income support is being made available to low income renter households in Los Angeles, specifically seniors and people with disabilities at risk of homelessness. Applications open tomorrow, April 10, 8am. This is what we fought for. This is what voters won. At a time when ULA is under attack, this is a clear reminder: these funds are already making a real difference in people’s lives. We should be strengthening ULA, not weakening it. ➡️ See next slide for eligibility and how to apply 🔗 And link to application in bio

Today marks the third anniversary of Measure ULA going into effect! Since then, the bill has raised over 1 billion dollars for affordable housing and other vital services for working-class Angelenos. And since then, the billionaire class has continually funded attacks on Measure ULA to avoid paying their fair share to fund affordable housing solutions. But every time there’s an attack we’ll be here to defend the people’s billion!

ULA is facing attacks locally and statewide, and this morning the UHLA coalition showed up to defend it and set the tone for the ULA Ad Hoc Committee. From the press conference to City Hall, our members and supporters refuted flawed claims being used to justify changes to ULA and backed a data driven evaluation with deep stakeholder input — not a rushed process that risks cutting critical funding. This fight is bigger than LA. Statewide efforts threaten local funding, and leaders should defend ULA by supporting ACA 13, not weakening it here at home. The committee did not discuss amendments yet, but will meet throughout the month. Stay tuned for the next meeting. ULA doesn’t need fixing — it needs protection. Respect the will of the voters. Oppose the Taxpayer Deception Act. Support ACA 13. #HandsOffULA #RespectTheVote #SupportACA13
