We believe a different world is possible, and this is what building it together looks like: We launched a grassroots fundraising campaign in July with the goal of raising $15,000 that our membership would decide how to implement. People were asked to chip in what they could, and to ask their neighbors to do the same. People donated art, food, and other professional skills✨. People had imaginative conversations with loved ones and neighbors about what is possible long term and how we start investing now in the future we want for each other and for the next generation🙌🏼. Then we all came together to eat, dance, and celebrate the 5 years of building and to be in community with other people who share our vision for a future where our land is liberated from the for-profit market, where community has agency and control over their housing and where they can afford it permanently, where ownership, stewardship, and governance is collectivized for the benefit of the community rather than privatized for corporate profit. And the tajin on top is that we met our goal! 🎉 Thank you to everyone who played a part - big or small - in this effort. [español abajo] This is what it looks like when people come together to turn their struggle into action. This morning, we mobilized to the LA County Board of Supervisors meeting to demand action on housing for everyone struggling to make ends meet right now. Some of the people who showed up with us today are themselves facing evictions because they haven’t been able to go to work. And they decided to use their voice to advocate for housing solutions for EVERYONE, because they know that there are so many people who are suffering in the same ways. Thanks to all of the folks who stood with their neighbors today, the county motion to provide rent relief passed👏🏽 We still have work to do. The threats to stability continue and may intensify. If our electeds really care about our immigrant communities, if we care about protecting housing for folks who experienced extreme loss in the fires earlier this year, if we want to protect the progress we have made on homelessness, we need to halt evictions until people can stabilize. 🏠 —- Así se ve cuando la gente se une para convertir su lucha en acción. Esta mañana, nos movilizamos a Junta de Supervisores del Condado de Los Ángeles para exigir medidas en materia de vivienda para todos aquellos que están experimentando crisis económica en estos momentos. Algunas de las personas que nos acompañaron hoy están ellos mismos enfrentando desalojos por no haber podido ir a trabajar. Y decidieron usar su voz para abogar por soluciones de vivienda para TODOS, porque saben que hay muchas personas sufriendo de la misma manera. Emma De Paz, líder vendedora del CPC, querida hermana y abuela, fue secuestrada a las afueras de Sunset Home Depot el 19 de junio de 2025, tras 25 años trabajando allí. Fue una de las trabajadoras detenidas por ICE ese día, y una de las muchas personas queridas que nos han arrebatado en las últimas semanas. Actualmente se encuentra detenida sin acceso a atención médica adecuada y con riesgo inminente de ser trasladada al centro de detención de Adelanto, aún más lejos de su familia y del cuidado que necesita. Emma ha dedicado gran parte de su vida a luchar por los derechos de sus compañeros vendedores y otros inmigrantes de clase trabajadora. Ahora nos toca luchar para traerla a casa. Únase a nosotros y a otras organizaciones del Este de Los Ángeles el 1 de julio en una manifestación y vigilia comunitaria para honrar a todos los desaparecidos por ICE y exigir su regreso.
