UNITE Founder & President, Hon. Ricardo Baptista Leite M.D., attended Chevron's Health & Medical Global Meeting, in Houston, titled "Advancing Health through Simplicity, Technology, and Standardization", and addressed how AI has been shaping the policy-making process worldwide. It was also a moment to reflect on the progress of UNITE’s Mental Health work. Thanks to Chevron’s support, UNITE’s Mental Health Policy Desk is advancing mental health across Lusophone countries in Africa by actively strengthening parliamentary engagement. In Cape Verde, for instance, progress is moving fast. The project currently brings together 14 Members of Parliament (approximately one-fifth of the 72 seats), along with 12 national and international partners (such as WHO, Professionals Associations, academia, private and civil society organizations) through a national mental health working group. This group is actively reviewing the 2013 Mental Health Law against international best practices and directly involving the population in defining indicators for legislative impact. Chevron’s partnership has been instrumental in enabling this work and allowing UNITE’s expertise to strengthen political leadership on mental health - and it will remain so as the initiative expands to other countries. #ItsTimetoUNITE #Chevron #GlobalHealth #HealthDiplomacy
