Im gonna try to keep it short but in true hill fashion thats not going to happen :)
For those of you who were unable to make the show last night or refuse to read because your attention span is fried, this show was about memory loss due to depression or bipolar or whatever the hell is wrong with me and how painting has become a means of preserving memories. The paintings themselves are souvenirs. And while some of these works were made from traveling abroad or going on vacation, a lot of them are moments from right here at home. And how lucky am I that I live a life where my every day is filled with moments that I want to remember. It’s never lost on me that my ordinary is quite extraordinary. I end every day with a souvenir through laughter, through a conversation, through a new friendship. Thank you to everyone in my life who makes every day one worth looking forward to, one worth remembering, and on my worst ones, at the very least, tolerable. There are too many of you to name.
A question I get alot is how long do the paintings take and when I tell them the answer they’re always shocked at the speed. I often wonder what my works would be like if I spent more time on them, but as of right now I don’t find that to be an option because it’s so important that I immortalize as many memories as I can. These nine works are the tip of the tip of the iceberg.
I wish I could paint every single one of you that came last night because it’s something I want to and will remember for the rest of my life. I’m always humbled at how many people show up for me. My entire life I’ve feared that no one would. I’ve also had a crippling fear that I wouldn’t be successful on this career path but being with all of you last night, being surrounded by people who love me and who I love, I’m not sure how much more successful I can get than that. Ive peaked. And even everyone who couldn’t make it, every text, every comment, every repost, every like, every message, was received and means more than you know. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I love you.

For Spriggins, souvenirs are more than postcards or trinkets. They are the memories, the people, and the fleeting moments that shape a life. This new body of work captures friends, conversations, quiet mornings, and crowded nights, all painted with gratitude and love.
Inspired in part by Vincent van Gogh’s journals, Spriggins invites us to slow down, to remember, and to see beauty in the everyday.
