Whew—it feels great to be posting about putting up live music again. We’re still working things out for UC 2.0–it’s looking very good so stay tuned folks!
We have TWO Grease Patrol (our funky soul instrumental house band) live albums coming your way just in time for… they’ll be available for a big record release party at the new…. Getting things all polished up and man, do these records sound great. We’re excited. Get excited people!

“I don’t normally get too sentimental about records coming out that I’ve worked on but this one hits a little different in that I’ve been with this band for 12 years now and it’s the first physical album I have in hand to represent the passing of time rocking with this incredible world class crew. Honored and grateful merely scratches the surface.
Yes, there is a new Roots studio album in the works and yes, it’s murderous. Definitely excited for folks to hear it. Hopefully soon.
But this one’s live and if you know me, you know that live albums are my absolute favorite. I like the rawness and the realness. It’s a shame radio doesn’t favor the medium.
It’s also fun to see my stage name coming thru (reference the album cover and the notes on the back panel) and it’s apropos seeing as how Uncle Cheef (the club) is coming back to life soon. I love it when a plan comes together.

A truly magical night celebrating the release of my new album “In The Garden” in my hometown. I used to see movies in this space with my mom and dad, and it was overwhelmingly beautiful to return 20 years later with my quartet for a sold out show. Huge shout out to my sax big bro @ianhendricksonsmith aka @unclecheef for hosting the night and being such a good friend to me.
Next up, our NYC Album Release and birthday celebration with @mirandajoanmusic on October 30th at @nublunyc !

Gearing up for a massive month ahead 😎
My new album “In the Garden” drops Oct 10 on @pinchrecordsofficial ! I’m so proud of this album and can’t wait to have the music out in the world. The whole record was cut live to tape over five days, and features @k_magic_keys on keys, @marty_kenney_ on bass, and @phildrums on drums. We’ll be celebrating the album all month 💃🏽💃🏽
On OCT 18, we’re doing a Westchester release show at @bedfordplayhouse brought to you by @unclecheef . This “pop-up” release show is almost sold out, so get your tickets before they’re gone. The amazing @ianhendricksonsmith will sit in

Yesterday we lost Akiko Tsuruga, the great Hammond B-3 operator and fantastic human being. She graced our stage often, as often as we could make it happen. If I’m not mistaken she may have been our most frequent flyer in the two years we were open in Brewster.
She embodied all the great things in music that we treasure. She always showed up to play, was always wonderful to be around and truly lifted the room with her energy and positive vibes. This loss cuts deep.
We don’t have all that many entertainers left that had direct access to the originators. Her time spent with Papa Lou Donaldson and Dr Lonnie Smith clearly had a profound effect on her output. She had an old school sensibility of showmanship that’s becoming increasingly rare these days.
I was trying to book her in our last couple of weeks open in May but her health issues were preventing her from working.
I’m thankful for the time we had together. If only there was a lot more of it. A painful reminder of how fragile this life can be.
Sincere condolences to her family, friends and fans worldwide. Mags, we’re thinking of you especially.
We’ll miss you Akiko! We love you!!!

Too much fun last night at our pop-up picnic at Salinger’s Orchards!! The band crushed it, the food and beverage was outta sight and the company we kept was epic. What a perfect night. We love all y’all. Thank you.
