This is Dylan’s machine, a means to take place without verbal communications. Materials are words, object making is a language. During the Game Changer (Carton Blanc) workshop at La Villette in Paris, 17 participants imagined and created objects as an embodiment of their abilities and provide a positive understanding and experience of neurodivergence. The workshop was organized in collaboration with @villettemakerz . #neurodivergence #design #process #visibility #objects #making

Some pictures of the exhibition at the end of the Game Changer (Carton Blanc) workshop. While the participation in the exhibition is optional , most participants choose to be in. Game Changer reconsidered the normative principles of sport and reframed them as movement for and by neurodivergent participants. More specifically, through design and making, the neurodivergent participants were invited to reinvent, combine, and expand the dimensions of sport: space, rules, objects, time, clothing. During a one-week process, the participants employed an intuitive and unfolding process, drawing from their individual experiences. The participants organized their own schedule, working individually or in groups. Some projects were built in half a day and others evolved through the course of the week. 17 participants were given access to tools and materials that have nothing to envy to a professional design project. They were treated as creators. The objects they made are an embodiment of their abilities and provide a positive understanding and experience of neurodivergence. The materials provided were all salvaged, recycled and donated. The workshop was organized in collaboration with @villettemakerz which provided the space, workshop, material support and expertise to help make this happen. #neurodivergence #design #process #visibility #objects #making

For the Game Changer (Carton Blanc) workshop, Pierre made a couple of kinetic pieces. They can be used by one or two persons, inside or outside. Pierre mixed cues from racket sports and sculpture, using the simplest material typology (PVC tubes, foam, parachute cords). Still or moving, the pieces look engaging, visually-pleasing and easy to use. The workshop reconsidered the normative principles of sport and reframed them as movement for and by neurodivergent participants. This is the smallest piece made during the Game Changer (Carton Blanc) workshop, yet speaking volume in terms of appeal and significance. Romain was a bit intimidated by the materials and the workshop environment but succeeded to create a unique moving piece packed with character and emotional ergonomics. Design and making are our language. We speak it with materials. For the Game Changer (Carton Blanc) workshop, we were incredibly lucky to gather a usually large and rich selection of materials that opened a wide range of possibilities for each participant. The materials were all salvaged, recycled and donated. @muto_event and LRface gave a lot of them. @bzar.dae was of great help too thanks to the facilitation of @daisydawsondesign . @lareservedesarts was also a precious resource. Working as a large group, Eléonore, Mélina, Sokona, Fahim, Bernard, Dylan, Dafé, Jordan and Christian followed an incredible trajectory during the Game Changer (Carton Blanc) workshop. They started with something familiar and step-by-step were able to imagine and make something more complex and layered, involving their full body and mind. The participants started with a simple idea: map their day center as a board game, including real objects of their daily lives and imaginary ones. Gaining an ease in making, the scale was blown up, taking one of the rooms on the board, tracing it at scale 1:1 on the floor and imagining large objects to fill it. The only restriction was that the objects move. All the objects were brought outside and connected with colored lines to form a long loop. At their own pace, each participant walked the loop one or more times, making objects move or moving around objects they had themselves created. Literally and figuratively the loop was completed: a full week of design, making and movement. The workshop was organized in collaboration with @villettemakerz which provided space, material support and expertise to help make this happen. 17 participants were given access to tools and materials that have nothing to envy to a professional design project. They were treated as creators. The objects they made are an embodiment of their abilities and provide a positive understanding and experience of neurodivergence. The materials provided were all salvaged, recycled and donated, including some by @muto_event . #neurodivergence #design #process #visibility #objects #making

During the Game Changer (Carton Blanc) workshop, Yannis made a simple machine drawing on his interest in weight lifting. He used a random combination of parts and materials (a large clay roof tile, a pulley, some parachute cord, woodworking clamps and tubes aluminum) to create the most pleasing and functional device. Game Changer reconsidered the normative principles of sport and reframed them as movement for and by neurodivergent participants. More specifically, through design and making, the neurodivergent participants were invited to reinvent, combine, and expand the dimensions of sport: space, rules, objects, time, clothing. 17 participants were given access to tools and materials that have nothing to envy to a professional design project. For the Game Changer (Carton Blanc) workshop, Bruno, Ines, Jawal and Anaëlle collectively developed an object that moves and requires interaction to do so. That spirit of movement of collaboration is not only visible in the final object but also reflects the way it was made. The process shows the importance of making going beyond pure fabrication. Object making becomes a tool for communication, interaction and affirmation. The project is also great example of the rewards of combined effort of various unique personalities. And ultimately, the object is a lot of fun to use. Game Changer reconsidered the normative principles of sport and reframed them as movement for and by neurodivergent participants. Sparked by the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the workshop “Game Changer” reconsiders the normative principles of sport and reframes them as movement. More specifically, through design and making, the neurodivergent participants will be invited to reinvent, combine and expand the dimensions of sport: space, rules, objects, time, apparel. We believe all neurodivergent people are designers by default and that sport is for everybody. Neurodivergent people are invited to participate with their thinking, innate creativity, and sense of play. Participants do not have to be trained designers, let alone athletes or into sports. ++ July 8-16 @ Villette Makerz, Paris, France A project by @unblock.space & @villettemakerz Open to neurodivergent individuals, diagnosed or self-diagnosed 8-12 participants Make your own schedule More info: bit.ly/cartonblanc
