FKT Around Mt. Kilimanjaro 🏔️ | 36 Hours of Beauty, Grit, and Altitude
On August 15th at 9:00 PM, Colleen and I set off from the Lemosho Trailhead to attempt a full circumnavigation and summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. 36 hours and 5 minutes later, we returned to the same spot—exhausted, elated, and proud.
Our route combined the Northern Circuit with a summit push from School Hut via Gilman’s Point, Stella Point, and finally Uhuru Peak at 19,341ft. We hit the summit in the afternoon sun, with surreal ocean-like clouds below us and being later in the day avoided the cold and the crowd.
From there, we descended through Barafu and looped back along the Southern Route, finishing at Lemosho. The evening along the Southern route was quiet and peaceful.
This route is absolutely incredible. It’s beautiful, tough, and gives you a full 360° experience of Kilimanjaro. We’re stoked with how it went and grateful for the support from Ultimate Direction, whose gear (packs, pants, gloves) helped us stay light, warm, and fast.
Hard as hell. Totally worth it.
