Yesterday, students, faculty, staff and community came together for a tobacco planting ceremony on campus as part of the Roots of Growth project. It's a community and student-led initiative that connects people to the land through planting, learning and shared experience.
As part of this initiative, volunteers collectively plant and care for Indigenous, drought-resistant, edible and medicinal plants on campus. The project is a partnership with @ulethbridge@l.pirg@enviroleth@naapis_garden Anandi Botanicals and Kainai Ecosystem Protection Association - KEPA.

Students are at the heart of a major sports facility that is coming to the University of Lethbridge campus — further cementing ULethbridge as the sporting hub for southern Alberta.
An air-supported, 127,680 sq ft Multi-Sport Dome will be constructed immediately north of the existing Community Sports Stadium — significantly expanding year-round sport, recreation and training opportunities for students and the broader community while substantially increasing indoor capacity on the ULethbridge campus. Designed for flexibility and year-round use, the facility will support a wide range of sports and activities.
Backed by a landmark $1.15 million contribution from the University of Lethbridge Students' Union (@ulethsu ) and a $200,000 Community Capital Project Grant from the City of Lethbridge (@cityoflethbridge ), the new $13.5 million dome is a space by and for the community.
The facility’s plans include the following:
🥅 a turf field, perfect for soccer, football, rugby and baseball
🏀 two courts for tennis, pickleball and basketball
🏃♀️ a multi-lane track designed for sprint training and throwing events
The dome is anticipated to be completed August 2027.

Happy Earth Day! Dr. Leroy Little Bear, Vice-Provost, Iniskim Indigenous Relations, was featured in Globe and Mail today as he co-authored a recent Frontiers in Science study that warns the environment is not a resource to exploit, but the system on which everything depends from economy and culture to our identities.
"The buffalo is a keystone species when it comes to environmental issues, especially out here on the plains. It's also keystone species when it comes to culture," he says. The study show that protecting nature requires Indigenous leadership and argues that Indigenous knowledge systems are not supplementary to conservation science but foundational to it.
"We have to align ourselves, thinking-wise, knowledge-wise, with that buffalo. Because of his long experience - 20 million years of memory - I can learn from the buffalo."
