On Sunday, August 31st, the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we gathered to unveil “Deeply Rooted” — a powerful new mural by lead artists Ojo Akinlana and Da’ra Hoze (@ojotats@hoze.dara )
Public art carries the stories of a place, honoring memory while opening pathways for the future. “Deeply Rooted” is both a remembrance and a vision of perseverance — grounding us firmly in our shared roots.
This mural was commissioned through the City of New Orleans Percent for Art Program. Huge thanks to our public art team — Maya and Paris — for guiding this project, the Mayor’s Office (@embracetheculturenola ) and Ron Bechet (@ron.bee_ ) for being present, and Ujamaa Economic Development Corporation for your vision and collaboration on this project (@ujamaaedc@cid_nola ). Shout out to the supporting artists who helped bring this mural to life: @rickeyarchived@compton.iii@visionarybarnes@navydeity@peaxe and Noel.
➡️ Visit the Claiborne Innovation District to experience “Deeply Rooted” in person.

REEPOST: Sunday’s Fashion Under the Bridge was a tribute to the women who weave our culture together. We took the outfits off the parade route and into the spotlight. This event was different- it gave everyone the space to truly absorb the artistry and appreciate every hand-stitched detail up close, while they danced and modeled past years garments.
In a Second Line, the beauty is in the motion-but here, the beauty was in the details. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to witness the craftsmanship up close. Shoutout to incredible designers @nola_ddm@fet_fashion , culture bearers @versatileladiesofstyle and Lady Buckjumpers, photographer @cfreedom504 and DJ @worldofabomshell and Producer @cid_nola for setting the perfect vibe!

We are excited to launch “Prosper in Place” with the City of New Orleans to focus support resources in Tremé and the N. Claiborne Commercial District.
This new nine-month business empowerment program for entrepreneurs and small business owners will meet every second Tuesday of the month from 6:00–7:30 PM. Workshops will be in-person and offer one-on-one coaching, and marketing support focused on financial literacy, access to capital, and brand visibility—plus stipends and meals to make participation easier thanks to a grant awarded from the National League of Cities: Southern Cities Economic Initiative (SCEI).
Led by the City of New Orleans and hosted at the New Orleans Career Center with trusted local partners, this pilot is designed to strengthen corridor businesses and support long-term, community-driven economic growth.
