Proud to join Unite Here Local 8 in today’s May Day action calling on the Embassy Suites to deliver a fair contract and for FIFA to keep ICE out of World Cup. Statement on today’s action: “Immigrants are the backbone of the Seattle hospitality industry. But at a time when we should be preparing to celebrate the World Cup, the Trump administration is terrorizing our communities and undermining tourism. We want to welcome people from around the world to the Pacific Northwest this summer. We call on FIFA not to cooperate with the Trump administration’s attacks.” @uhlocal8@oavotes@apalaseattle@pugetsoundsage
Today, hotel workers at the Embassy Suites rally as they seek a new contract that addresses low wages, workload, and access to health insurance and call on FIFA to not cooperate with the Trump Administration attacks on immigrants, demanding NO ICE as security in or around World Cup venues and NO sharing of workers personal info with ICE.
Local 8 endorses Jessica Forsythe (@votejessicaforsythe ) for WA House of Reps in LD 48, Pos. 2! Jessica is a progressive city councilor in Redmond who is ready to lead at the state level. She’s stood with our 1,500 members who prepare and serve meals for Big Tech. Together, let's fight for an affordable, secure future for working families on the Eastside!
Dining workers on the area tech campuses are organizing to keep each other safe in the face of increased ICE activity and changing immigration policy. Last week, dining workers at the Meta campus in Bellevue WA presented a petition asking Meta to allow workers back in the buildings’ parking garages – in part to limit their contact with ICE agents who have been witnessed in the area.
Seattle Convention Center union employees handed out leaflets to pedestrians on January 31st. Workers say wages are too low, while Seattle’s cost of living continues to rise. Management is even proposing medical plans with higher out-of-pocket costs for some workers.
Oregon residents are paying the price for Big Tech’s electricity use — but the Oregon Public Utility Commission has the chance to make tech companies pay their fair share. Take action at the link in our bio or visit: local8.org/we-wont-pay
We represent nearly 1,500 dining workers on tech campuses in WA and OR at Google, Microsoft, and Meta. All these workers secured union recognition through a card check process just like workers are now asking from Lavish Roots. The countdown to our deadline of Dec 1 continues!
Tech dining workers and allies packed the room Thursday night to announce a new deadline for Lavish Roots, Meta’s cafeteria operator in Bellevue, Redmond, and SoDo. By December 1st, we demand Lavish end their anti-union campaign and agree to a fair process for union recognition!
Thank you to King County councilmember Mosqueda, State Rep. Salahuddin, and Seattle councilmember-elect Foster for standing behind these workers! Lavish workers deserve the same fair process tech dining workers had at Google, Microsoft, and Meta (South Lake Union) in our region.
