A visionary’s desk at UGA sits empty today. But Bob Pinckney’s legacy is not going anywhere. It runs through every classroom, every startup, every student who took a shot because Bob made ‘what if’ feel like ‘why not?’
Bob wasn’t just the head of our UGA ENTR Program—he was its architect, its greatest champion, and its lifeblood. In just a few years, he transformed a fledgling initiative into a powerhouse that launched thousands of student dreams from all corners of campus into reality.
He didn’t just grow the program—he built a home for it too. Endless architect meetings, site visits, and hard hat tours transformed a tired building into Studio 225—the nerve center for UGA entrepreneurship. A place where dreamers find their people, where stumbles turn into stepping stones, and where “someday” becomes “right now.” It’s not just a building; it’s Bob’s vision set in brick and mortar. And as long as students keep walking through its doors, his impact will never fade.
Bob was the person who picked up every call. Opened every door. Believed in every student (even when your pitch was mostly caffeine, charisma, and quite “creative” math!). With his signature mix of cool confidence and that magnetic grin, Bob took a chance on so many of us when others wouldn’t. Where others saw risk, Bob saw opportunity. And he didn’t just hand out advice—he backed it up with real support, real guidance, and real connections.
The numbers tell one story—record-breaking program enrollment, transformative funding, countless businesses launched. But Bob’s real legacy lives in the moments between the metrics: the entrepreneurial war stories he’d spend a good chunk of the semester telling, the tough-love feedback that turned half-baked ideas into viable ventures, the way he’d dive into his seemingly endless Rolodex to connect you with exactly the right person at exactly the right time.
This week we lost our leader, our mentor, and our friend. But Bob didn’t just build a program—he built a movement, and we won’t let that movement slow down.
Thank you, Bob, for showing us what it means to build something larger than ourselves. Rest easy, friend. We’ll take it from here.
From dorm room to acquisition in 5 years.
UGA Management Information Systems & Entrepreneurship alum Matthew Tesvich (‘23) has announced the acquisition of Skunk Skin, the bootstrapped sock brand he started with almost no money and a problem he couldn’t ignore.
Matt leveraged UGA resources—winning competitions like Next Top Entrepreneur, Venture Prize, Collegiate Great Brands, and the 2023 SEC Championship—to raise $250K+ in non-dilutive funding. He went on to win Amazon Prime’s Buy It Now and scale nationally without taking on investors.
To current and future Dawg founders: this is what’s possible when you start here. 🐾🐶🚀
