Can you believe it? Just like that, we went from Imagine Day to the end of the academic term!
🌞 Whether you just finished your first year, are counting down to graduation, off to field school, or are enjoying all the learning and friendships along the way, we hope you have an amazing summer!
From the lab to the racetrack, Channing Chen is already making his mark in first year as a UBC Engineering student and Presidential Scholar.
He’s exploring how materials and mechanical design can improve vehicle safety, contributing to research in advanced materials characterisation and working on a robot SEM system. He’s also part of UBC Formula Electric’s chassis team, where he designed a component for their electric race car.
This summer, he’ll continue that work through an NSERC research award, building a system for advanced materials testing.
For Channing, engineering is about turning ideas into real-world impact and shaping a safer future.

Home to 120+ capstone students, this is where years of building, testing and figuring things out actually happens.
April 1 marked a pivotal moment for our #UBCEngineering Class of 2026 as they received their Iron Rings— symbols of integrity, accountability and their dedication to the engineering profession.
Proud to celebrate this achievement with all of you. ⚙️ Thanks for sharing your photos!
#UBCEngineering students came together for Design and Innovation Day to showcase the capstone projects they’ve been building all year.
We saw everything from carbon-captured jet fuel and seaweed-based healing to AI-powered emergency health response and even microbial meat alternatives. Plus so many more incredible ideas that demonstrated how our students are tackling real problems with thoughtful solutions!
Were you part of D+ID? We'd love to hear about your project! Drop a comment for folks to learn more!

@ubcthunderbots , one of #UBCEngineering’s student design teams, is gearing up for @RoboCup in South Korea 🇰🇷
Their weeks are filled with design reviews, cross-team integration, and testing using custom-built rigs. From scrimmages to full field setups on campus, it’s all about building, testing, and iterating. 🤖⚽
With lots still ahead, they’re pushing toward one goal: taking back first place. Wishing them the best of luck!
Meet Aditya Chaudhuri, a @UBCOSOE Electrical Engineering alum now working as a Technical Advisor at Global Affairs Canada.
He calls himself “an engineer transforming the public sector,” applying problem-solving and systems thinking to improve government services and create real-world impact.

Meet @UBCOrbit , a #UBCEngineering student design team working on a CubeSat for disaster relief operations and amateur radio training.
The many parts of the satellite must be rigorously tested, and such is the case for these tiny reaction wheels. Here, you can see their AOCS (Attitude and Orbital Control System) members running reaction wheel tests in the ATLAS cleanroom in Hennings.
We can’t wait to see where this project takes them! 🚀
