“5 Minutes That Will Make You Love Ron Carter” . Maestro Ronald Levin Carter turned 89 a week ago today, and in honor of him we all wrote about an inspirational recording he’s graced us with over the years. When he, Donald Harrison and Billy Cobham recorded this, Mr. Carter was 65. Maestro Carter deserves all the flowers, every single time. . . . Thank you @giovanniruss1 for doing Mr. Carters work justice and including me in this incredible piece. Thank you to my mother and father for helping me chase the dream after I was infected with the sound of Ron Carter. Thank you @roncarterbassist for a lifetime of artistry that should be celebrated every day. Happy Birthday 🥳🎉🍾

On a cool and sunlit October day in 2024, I drove to the Vail of Cashmere with a car full of random objects. I’d been telling people to give me items that might have some sort of cool vibe but don’t particularly have any use or purpose in their lives. Finding and capturing the right balance of the real and surreal was the goal. I knew that we would build something to mirror the UPWARD ecosystem, and I didn’t know what or how…but I had so much trust in Laura, Stephanie, Tatianna, Avery and this crazy vision that I wasn’t worried. . . That day is one that I’ll always remember and cherish - I have so much gratitude for those folks and their ability to come together (for the first time) to make something that speaks to the vision while having such a great time. Lastly, I wanna give a special thanks to the visual director Laura Isabel Tropi 👏🏾who took what we did even further in masterfully designing all of the album art and physical designs. . . The assortment of objects include: a typewriter from @marshallmusiq a bumper and speaker from @addie______vogt an insanely large pasta strainer, rake and boombox from the Marlborough House bass strings, a bass wheel, packing peanuts, CD’s…and lots of random shit we never used . .
