Join mosey, and Dominic Hofstede (AGI Member) from Typographic Services, for Tour de Sign. A leisurely walking tour of some of Melbourne’s most iconic precincts, influential hospitality venues and world-class retail destinations. Saturday 16 May, 9am–12pm Dominic will take us behind his work for Japanese grill restaurant @robatamelbourne — sharing the inspiration behind creating a distinctive brand and experience that merges Japanese culture with Melbourne dining. Tour de Sign is a Melbourne Design Week event. The tour reveals some of the often-invisible layers of design — wayfinding, signage, placemaking, and branding — and the role it plays in actively shaping the city’s identity and future.. For more details, and to purchase tickets, visit the link in the @mosey.guide bio or visit designweek.melbourne Melbourne Design Week is an initiative of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. #MelbourneDesignWeek #NGV @ngvmelbourne

Bates Smart Journal Selected Projects 2010–2025 A 2+ year book project documenting 15 years of Journal, an annual publication profiling the work and thinking of @BatesSmart The content includes an essay by @katelinbutler and a series of curated case studies categorised under 7 key sectors. A 20 page process section printed on lightweight uncoated paper replicates the form of a traditional sketchbook. The cover features a subtle interpretation of Crown Metropol’s bold facade, an image that appeared on the first issue of Journal. Reproduced in a clear gloss foil on uncoated board, the tactile and minimalist approach contrasts with the full colour interior pages. — Design: @typographic.services (@dominichofstede with thanks to @adenure @sunnylei )

The second Wunderkabinet collection (WKT.02:1:1) is a small selection of items in square(ish) formats from the @recollection_au graphic design archive (1960–1990). The Deviant Format (extract) ‘Neither portrait nor landscape, the square’s equal proportions enabled the systematic subdivision of the page, allowing hierarchy and image placement to be determined by proportion rather than convention. It became a symbol of clarity, order and universal legibility — values closely aligned with the Modernist movement. Australian designers of the 1960s–90s were similarly drawn to the square, likely influenced by what they experienced in their international travels and saw in the pages of Graphis and Gebrauchsgraphik. Across art books, annual reports and promotional publications of varying scales, the format became a hallmark of designers shaping the local profession’. Featuring work by Al et al, Brian Sadgrove and Associates, Emery Vincent Associates, Mimmo Cozzolino, Cato Hibberd Design, Les Mason Graphic Design, David Lancashire Design, Larraine Hall, Dennis Harney, Cato Hibberd Hawksby, Arthur Leydin, David Sampietro, Robert Rosetzky, Weatherhead & Stitt, Lynda Warner and Harry Williamson. —— Location: L2, Mitchell House, 358 Lonsdale St, Melbourne. Hours: The corridor is accessible during business hours, Mon-Fri. Design: Typographic Services @dominichofstede Type Specification: RJ Schema & Simon Mono by @robert.janes

@cullenjewellery is an innovative Australian jewellery design business specialising in premium lab grown diamond and moissanite engagement and wedding rings. We partnered with Cullen’s internal design team to evolve the brand’s identity, strengthening its competitive position for continued international growth. Following a comprehensive audit of the brand and its competitors, we refined Cullen’s identity system. This included developing a custom logotype, supported by a suite of complementary typefaces. The existing colour palette was updated and expanded, and a new set of art direction principles was established for Cullen’s photography. The refreshed system was then codified in a comprehensive set of brand guidelines to ensure consistency as the identity evolves. — Design: Typographic Services (@dominichofstede & @adenure ) & Cullen Brand Team Typographic Specification: @abcdinamo Arizona Mix, Ginto (customised)
