Today my first museum solo show ANATOMY OF A PRACTICE opens at @bocamuseum . This drawing is the largest indoor work of mine to date at 10ft high by 25ft long. Come by sometime 🖤 In his first museum solo exhibition, Miami-based artist TYPOE GRAN invites you into his world. With a mixed-media practice, Gran is known for his work in painting, sculpture, murals, and installation, but his glossy, colorful finished products belie the creative chaos of their creation. For the first time, this exhibition TYPOE GRAN: Anatomy of a Practice invites visitors into his process, tracing the journey of Typoe’s world-building from concept to execution. Including site-specific murals, charcoal drawing, sculpture, and lightboxes, visitors will enjoy the breadth of the artist’s practice while being immersed in his world. The @arshtcenter just unveiled a bold new mural by acclaimed Jewish-Cuban contemporary artist @typoe , bringing history, performance, and public art together in Miami.
“When the Arsht Center reached out, I was really excited,” TYPOE shares. “They’re such a strong arts organization, and they’re deeply connected to the Miami community—which is something I’m very passionate about. I immediately knew we were going to create something special together.”
Inspired by 19th-century European theater traditions where audiences received layered paper replicas of plays to take home, TYPOE reimagined that concept on a monumental scale—transforming the Carnival Tower into a shared experience that extends beyond the stage and into the public sphere. “Families and kids could interact with it together, and it became a way to carry a piece of the experience beyond the theater”, he continues. “I thought that was such a beautiful sentiment, and I wanted to bring that idea back. By putting it on the building, the public could share in that experience—even those who aren’t inside watching the plays.”
As the Miami art scene continues to expand, TYPOE is not only contributing through this mural but also through new projects, including a forthcoming furniture line and a series of sculptures. For him, the city’s creative future is wide open—and he’s determined to shape it by blending tradition, innovation, and community-driven art. “Miami is still a young city, and I think it just needed time to grow into what it wants to be”, TYPOE shares. “It’s really up to all of us collectively to shape it—if there’s something we want to see here, it’s our responsibility to create it.”
