18 years ago today this fine young gentleman came into the world, and our lives have been better for it every day since.
Happy birthday, Oscar! I’m so proud of the intelligent, creative, caring, and thoughtful—not to mention hilarious and hard-hitting dude (slides 9-10!) you’ve become.
The birthday waffle shot has become an annual tradition with this kid, but this year, we decided to do something a little different by taking a photo of a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD!!!

I still feel like the college kid scoring a few nice meals from Mom and Dad when they roll into town for parents’ weekend. Blinked my eyes and somehow woke up as the one with the credit card.

Dropping your kid off at college is a bittersweet reminder that your children might be yours, but you don’t own them. You’re just renting. Lucia, your arrival in my life 18 years ago inspired me to raise my game in all ways, and our time with you has helped make us all who we are today. We’ll miss you terribly, but will also take heart in the fact that while we’re reminiscing about the past 18 years, you’re focused on the next 50. As you should be. Make the most of every moment!
