BEASTIES OF THE APOCALYPSE When Kharálampos Goyós first messaged me asking if I’d write lyrics for a children’s choir piece inspired by Slavoj Žižek’s take on the apocalypse… I mean, how do you say no to that kind of brief? Four beasties came out of that! Kids singing about ecological crisis, biogenetics, economic imbalance, social collapse. All very topical I’m afraid. Today Greek National Opera released the animated film version of The Beasties of the Apocalypse. It’s a dark, playful, slightly unhinged “godless prayer” performed by the GNO Children’s Choir. Wonderful animation by Effie Pappa @effie.pappa , conducted by Konstantina Pitsiakou, with music by Kharálampos and lyrics by me. @khgoyos - with @simeontsakiris in the role of the narrator, Ioannis Nekronymos Available (for free) on the GNO TV website - activate english subs!

Ok - something quite different to my usual sht; two friends from my hometown have invited me to work on a new eco-friendly cleaning product they created and I conceptualised and designed this lovely brand called Kerkini @kerkini_ - today Kerkini launched its official shop at kerkiniclean.com - have a look and support a small local brand if you are based in greece - the product is quite good !

With Uchronia starting its journey and heading to its world premiere at the @berlinaleforum , I’ve been reflecting on my own place in this project - so here are a few thoughts and behind-the-scenes exclusive photos! *I worked on this project as a scriptwriter. Alongside Fil (the director), we developed the concepts that eventually became the world of Uchronia. It’s the first feature-length film adaptation of Arthur Rimbaud’s ‘A Season in Hell’, and it was a real pleasure to return to a poem I’d last read decades ago, rediscover how rich its world is, and try to bring it to new audiences by connecting its central concerns with contemporary conversations. * It’s fair to say that with Uchronia, Fil and I made exactly the kind of things we would like to make (within material limitations, obviously). No consideration for commercial viability, industry dos and don’ts, script-labs, or fears of being too pretentious or too obscure. The fact that we ended up in a so-called a-list festival doing this makes it extra sweet. * Writing happened in a fast-and-furious mode: between travelling, working, being ill - squeezing it into every crack of my life for a few months. And of course the writing process spilled into every other moment of the day - walking, sleeping, showering. Became an adventure - I went to Rimbaud and Verlaine’s London flat, visited Emma Goldman’s tomb in Chicago, traced the steps of Wojnarowicz and Marsha P. Johnson at the East Village of NYC. Writing in cafés, libraries, trains, beds. Despairing through drafts… *Lastly, in the film I did a little cameo as Jack Smith, abducting Andy Warhol while accusing him of being the forefather of SLOP.
