At our introductory workshop - Getting To Know Nature Around You - we introduced some of the core concepts that guide us at the PETAL Project 🌻 - Field Environmental Philosophy is an environmental methodology that integrates Interdisciplinary Research, Narratives & Storytelling, Field Activities with an ethical lens, and in situ/site-specific Conservation 🌿 - Intersectional Environmentalism centers Justice and the interconnectedness of social justice and environmental justice issues. We love the work their doing at @intersectionalenvironmentalist & @queers4climatejustice 🍃 - Queer Ecology and the perspective that views nature, biology, and sexuality through the lens of queer theory, breaking apart various dualisms and binaries. We love the work their doing at @queernature & @queerecology ✨ - Participatory Virtues are fostered in order to enhance engagement and cultivate virtues such as self-confidence, courage, resilience, attentiveness, dependability, generosity, patience, and more for better inclusiveness in participatory deliberations 🌳 - Teaching Community: A Pedagogy of Hope by bell hooks - teaching can happen at any time, in the community, outside of classrooms, and in spaces that affect people's daily lives. 🌾 Of course, there are many more amazing environmental and community resources and concepts that help guide us, but these are a few foundational ones that we hope you enjoy learning about too 🌻 #environmentaleducation #intersectionalenvironmentalism #fieldenvironmentalphilosophy #teachingcommunity #queerecology #participatoryart #ecologist #conservation #naturalist #environmentalliteracy

Why PETALs? 🌻 As we continue to introduce our project, we want to share the multiple meanings that inspire our goals. Petals are shaped to attract pollinators and cultivate mutual relationships. 🌸 💞🐝 The PETAL Project is a shared community of environmentalists, educators, ecologists, naturalists, activists, artists, creative placemakers, and community builders that seek to cultivate environmental action and nurture relationships with the living and nonliving entities we share the environment with. 🌿 Together, we take part in purposeful participation to learn about environmental issues and take actions to protect the environment. 🍃 We do this through creative skills, imaginative expression, community education, and lifelong learning. 🌾 Learn, grow, and create with us. #environmental #education #environmentaleducation #environmentalliteracy #planetearth #communitybuildingcommunity

🧠🌱What if restoration–in health and land–wasn’t a luxury, but a way of life? Nature is being prescribed by thousands of healthcare providers! And time in nature has long been one of humanity's greatest sources of creative inspiration! Around the world, art is also being prescribed for health benefits! IMAGINE if the two were combined to nurture our wellbeing, restore our relationship with the land, and bring our communities closer together–THEY ARE! 🌟STAR TEXAN OF THE MONTH 📍Denton, Texas 🌸The PETAL Project (Participatory Environmentalism Through Art & Learning) is a community-centered environmental program that blends art, education, and environmental conservation. 🎨🌻Programs are focused on broad, accessible topics, including native plant walks, nature film screenings, and skill-building workshops such as seed paper making, cyanotypes, and mending. Activities take place in public and partner spaces throughout the community, including studios, live music venues, universities, and other local spaces. 💙Food grown at their community garden plot is donated to local shelters and food pantries, extending the project’s benefits to underserved community members. Are you looking for a project idea for your town? Or want to share your project to inspire others? Check out the link in bio!
