Branching out to the Robson North Thompson region. The Robson North Thompson Forestry Coalition is launching their own Wood-First-Wednesday, creating a space for people across forestry, manufacturing, and local wood industries to connect, share ideas, and build relationships. The coalition already exists and is a great example of how different communities can come together towards a common goal. RNT joins Squamish and Vancouver, who radically gather on the first Wednesday of each month.

Join us for an evening at UBC’s Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) to tour the facility and learn more about the programs, tools, and technologies supporting the future of value-added wood manufacturing. This event is an opportunity to explore the CAWP facility, learn about the resources and possibilities available to wood-based companies for product development and testing, and see how the centre is continuing to upgrade its capabilities to support the next generation of the wood industry and the people working within it. The tour will also provide insight into the equipment and production technologies that enable modern value-added manufacturing, including CNC centres and professional woodworking machinery. As part of the evening, a showcase of work from WOOD 305, an intensive manufacturing course from the UBC Faculty of Forestry, is featured. These pieces represent the culmination of technical wood-machining skills and industrial production techniques, as students transition from theory to hands-on fabrication in a professional shop environment. Join us to connect with others in the wood community, get a closer look at CAWP’s evolving facility, and enjoy an evening of learning, conversation, BBQ, and drinks. Register through link in Bio

Building on the success of our first Log Jam in November, we’re bringing it back with a more focused theme, while keeping the same open space to explore. Join us at @makerlabs for a hands-on hackathon focused on prototyping original lighting projects. This event challenges participants to explore how light interacts with materials, form, and space. Participants will work in teams to prototype functional or conceptual lighting pieces using wood, sheet goods, and other maker-friendly materials. Working in collaboration with MakerLabs’ members and staff, teams will use tools available in our woodshop, including the CNC Router and Laser Cutter. This event is ideal for designers, engineers, makers, and industry partners who want to collaborate and learn from each other, while building something tangible. Whether you’re experimenting with joinery-driven lamp structures, CNC-milled diffusers, or laser-cut patterns that shape and scatter light, this is an opportunity to push both design and fabrication skills and deepen your knowledge about wood. No prior lighting design experience required—just an interest in making, problem-solving, and working with light. We encourage you, if you have them, to bring personal wood materials, components, or any elements you’d like to incorporate into your prototype. Bonus points if your wood is locally collected or BC-origin. We’ll also have materials on-site for prototyping, including wood bits and LED parts. March 14 Maker Labs – 780 E Cordova St, Vancouver – Parking is available on site. 2:00 – 6:00 PM Register through the link igbc.ca/logjam2

Hello Sea 2 Sky'ers! We're back again with another Wood-First-Wednesday with a return to @howesoundbrewing . We've enjoyed our past meetups here so much that we've decided to make it our regular meeting grounds when we're not doing tours and shop visits. Join us for informal networking and conversation based around wood.

We're back at the beginning of the month again for our recurring Wood-First-Wednesday. Come join us at @steamworksmountpleasant for some informal networking and conversations centered around wood. It's not all we talk about, but it's the basis of what brings us together and has knowledge and experience flow through conversation.

Join TWIG and CLF BC for a happy hour at the @alibiroomvancouver in historic Gastown. This event brings together people working across design, construction, materials, policy, and innovation who share a common interest in how we build, deconstruct, and recover materials to create local environmental and economic benefit. CLF BC’s work on low-carbon buildings and systems intersects with TWIG’s focus on value-added wood, manufacturing, and product development. This gathering creates space to explore how material decisions influence building performance, climate outcomes, and BC’s construction future. Taking place at the close of BUILDEX, the event offers an opportunity to extend conversations from the conference, connect across disciplines, and exchange perspectives on where the industry is heading and how we can shape that future together.   Ticket reserves your spot and a table full of appies.
