All ambigrams can be analyzed using the Two Halves Rule. The top half of words are crucial for legibility. Focus more on making sure the top half is how the word(s) normally should look. The eyes see strokes in the bottom half more as decorative embellishments rather than crucial strokes for letter recognition. Creating ambigrams can be difficult and time consuming but that’s what makes them so wonderful. A well designed ambigram is a display of true BEAUTY.

Extra Tip: To help you decide if an ambigram you are working on is legible, cover up the bottom half of the design and see if you can read it. If you have trouble reading it, it might mean that you need some of the more important strokes placed in the top half.
